    (2019)
It is difficult to frame Leibniz’s treatment of imagination in his broader gnoseological theory. On the one hand, some of his texts seem to relate imagination with a poor display of cognitive faculties; on the other hand, there is textual evidence that the imagination plays a major role on his gnoseological theory, as presented in the New Essays. The aim of this paper is to analyze this role in connection with Leibniz’s theory of expression and apperception. To do so, I will present first a brief outline of these two latter notions; second, I will relate them to the concept of imagination. Finally, I will give some guidelines to explain the apparent contradictions in Leibniz’s writings on imagination, in order to show its epistemological role.

The purpose of this article is to explain some of the implications of using the CRISPR-Cas technique in the germinal line for non-therapeutic purposes, in the context of transhumanism. After giving a brief explanation about the nature of this technique, the state of the question is offered in relation to the current international regulations. Afterwards, the consequences of the development of this technique within the framework of the transhumanism project are observed and it offers legal, political and anthropological reflections on these consequences. © 2019 Centro de Investigacion Social Avanzada. Fuerza primitiva y fuerza derivativa en G. W. Leibniz: modificación y limitación
(Universidad Panamericana. Facultad de Filosofía, 2015)
    ;
    LEONARDO RUIZ GOMEZ;333826
Derivative force is described by Leibniz as a modification or limitation of the entelechy or primitive force. However, he also describes it as belonging to phenomena and as the cause of physical motion. Some scholars have found in this particular matter an unsolvable trouble, while some others have proposed different solutions. This paper presents an analysis of the notion of “mode” as it describes the relationship between primitive and derivative forces. Taking this into account, I shall criticize the interpretation of two scholars on this matter, and I will try to provide an explanation on how the derivative forces can belong to phenomena while being a modification of entelechy. This may be a major achievement in order to understand the relations between metaphysics and dynamics in Leibnizian philosophy.

    (2017)
Leibniz, as many of his contemporaries, establishes some conceptual connections between the notion of space and the notion of time. Since the concept of time is much less explored by Leibniz than the concept of space, this analogy could offer some clues to understand the first. However, it is important to analyse the limits of this analogy and the properties that can be inferred between the two notions, since there is no strict parallelism among them. The aim of this paper is to identify some essential elements of the Leibnizian concept of time in connection with his theory of space. First, I shall determine which extrapolations are valid between these two terms. Then, I shall provide a clear notion of time, as well as some possible contradictions within the Leibnizian system in this regard. Finally, some possible ways of solutions to these inconsistencies will be offered.

Leibniz proposed a natural disaster insurance coordinated by the government. This proposal was aligned with a tradition of political, economic and ethical thought that is grounded in scholastic philosophy and, particularly, in the School of Salamanca. This paper aims to offer a general view of the discussion in late-medieval philosophy regarding insurance; the analysis will point out two troublesome issues: The problem of usury and the problem of divine providence. From this, I will explain some particularities of the Leibnizian proposal on the scope of the late medieval debate by showing its originality and relation with the School of Salamanca. ©2020 Instituto Teologico de Caceres, Universidad de Extremadura. Leibniz y el "analysis situs". Los infinitesimales como estructuras situacionales
    (2019)
The analysis situs is a geometrical project developed by Leibniz during his years in Paris. The aim of this paper is to outline the notion of “situational structure” through the main ideas of the analysis situs. This notion should explain the relation between this geometrical project and his metaphysics, dynamics and the infinitesimal calculus. This should shed some light on some important Leibnizian notions such as infinitesimals, im-petus and conatus. All rights reserved.

The relationship between the principle of identity of indiscernibles and the principle of sufficient reason in the Leibniz-Clarke correspondence
(Franz Steiner Verlag Wiesbaden GmbH, 2017)
The aim of this paper is to render a detailed analysis of the correspondence with Clarke in order to shed some light in the relationship between the Principle of Identity oflndiscernibles and the Principle of Sufficient Reason. Most of the secondary literature takes for granted that Leibniz derives the Principle of Identity of Indiscernible from the Principle of Sufficient Reason in at least some parts of the correspondence. This would render the Principle of Identity of Indiscernibles a merely contingent truth and not a necessary principle. I will argue that this interpretation is misleading, and that Leibniz never abandoned the idea that the Principle of Identity of Indiscernibles is a necessary truth. Although he is continuously using the Principle of Sufficient Reason in his argumentation, he keeps in parallel a strong argumentation that entails the necessity of the Principle of Identity of Indiscernibles. To achieve this goal, it will be necessary to point out first some contextual facts that may determine a correct understanding of the correspondence. It will be also necessary to frame the discussion about the principles into the broader debate on the possibility of Newtonian space. Finally, it will be shown that the mentioned hypothesis is supported by textual evidence throughout the entire correspondence. © 2017 Franz Steiner Verlag Wiesbaden GmbH. All right resrrved.

The Evolution of the Leibnizian Notion of “Primary Matter” and its Scholastic Background
(Instituto Teológico “San Pedro de Alcántara” de Cáceres, la Universidad de Extremadura, la Universidad Francisco de Vitoria y Editorial Sindéresis, 2024)
This paper aims to clarify the evolution of the notion of primary matter in Leibniz’s philosophy. The analysis takes the scholastic discussion on the reality of primary matter as a framework to explain the development of Leibniz’s ideas. It will be shown that Leibniz argued in his earlier writings for a conception of primary matter as some sort of being (similarly in line with some scholastic philosophers like Scoto, Ockam, and Suarez). In contrast, in his mature metaphysics, he deployed this primary matter of reality, approaching Aquinas’s position in a creative and novelty manner. ©The author ©Instituto Teológico “San Pedro de Alcántara” de Cáceres, la Universidad de Extremadura, la Universidad Francisco de Vitoria y Editorial Sindéresis
