Business Model Innovation and Decision-Making for the Productive Sector in Times of Crisis

2022 , Terán Bustamante, Antonia , Martínez Velasco, Antonieta Teodora

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has affected all companies and their business models. For this reason, firms have needed to redesign these models, focusing on customer value proposition. The purpose of this research is to analyze Business Model Innovation (BMI) for decision-making. The methodological strategy is carried out through Bayesian networks. A model is made in which the main elements that make up a BMI are identified and quantified, which impact better decision-making to properly manage the proposal value for customers, technology, and achieve innovation. Evidence shows that the construction of BMI requires a model that mainly considers the relationships between variables such as knowledge architecture, implementation operation, change and evolution, and agile response. BMI will apply to organizations to the extent that it contemplates variables related to customer service and attention, as well as those related to innovation in organizations, attention, and those related to innovation in organizations. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Country-Level Environmental Performance: Investment, Education, and Research and Development

2024 , Leyva-Hernández, Sandra Nelly , Terán Bustamante, Antonia

Background: Environmental deterioration has increased in recent years and is a worldwide concern. This study aims to analyze the influence of the resources and capacities of countries on their environmental performance. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study using secondary data was carried out quantitatively. A linear regression analysis was carried out to determine significant factors in countries’ environmental performances. (3) Results: Education innovation and investment were associated with environmental performance; however, investment in a country did not affect the country’s performance. (4) ©MDPI

Knowledge Management for Open Innovation: Bayesian Networks through Machine Learning

2021 , Terán Bustamante, Antonia , Martínez Velasco, Antonieta Teodora , Dávila-Aragón, Griselda

Knowledge management within organizations allows to support a global business strategy and represents a systemic and organized attempt to use knowledge within an organization to improve its performance. The objective of this research is to study and analyze knowledge management through Bayesian networks with machine learning techniques, for which a model is made to identify and quantify the various factors that affect the correct management of knowledge in an organization, allowing you to generate value. As a case study, a technology-based services company in Mexico City is analyzed. The evidence found shows the optimal and non-optimal management of knowledge management, and its various factors, through the causality of the variables, allowing us to more adequately capture the interrelationship to manage it. The results show that the most relevant factors for having adequate knowledge management are information management, relational capital, intellectual capital, quality and risk management, and technology assimilation. © 2021 by the authors. Entrepreneurship: Analysis by Country Through Machine Learning Techniques

2022 , Martínez Velasco, Antonieta Teodora , Terán Bustamante, Antonia

This research aims to analyze entrepreneurship worldwide through the dimensions and pillars of the entrepreneurship ecosystem of each country, identifying the contribution and patterns of behavior and correlation within the entrepreneurship ecosystem. This analysis intends to show the main actions that countries have carried out in support of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs. The tool used to analyze is machine learning, where various algorithms are applied. The evidence shows that the most relevant pillars in the entrepreneurial ecosystem are I. Opportunity Startup, II. Technology Absorption, III. Risk Acceptance, IV. Risk Capital and V. Process Innovation. The pillars that best correlate are I. Competition and Opportunity Startup, II. Opportunity Startup, and Risk Acceptance, III. Opportunity Startup and Technology Absorption, IV. Cultural Support and Opportunity Startup, and V. Opportunity Startup and Risk Capital. The present work aims to provide knowledge to decision-makers in both the public and private sectors to channel public policies that support entrepreneurs in this time of crisis and promote the generation and strengthening of entrepreneurial activity. Although there are still no reliable GEI data for the years 2020 to 2022, the economic crisis generated by the stagnation in the development of the countries has reduced support for entrepreneurs, which in many cases can be a key factor for the rescue of the most disadvantaged countries.

Valuation of an investment project in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry

2018 , Cruz Aranda, Fernando , Terán Bustamante, Antonia

In this paper, the evaluation of the investment project in research and development for the innovation and of great impact in the pharmaceutical industry is presented. The project evaluation is done through an American type real call option, based on binomial trees incorporating the expected volatility of the expected cash flows in order to determine the benefit of postponing the project three years, providing flexibility to investors in their decision making. Besides, in the valuation of a real option associated with the project, fuzzy sets theory is incorporated in the process of assigning possibilities to the branches of a tree. The value of the American type real call option to postpone the project are between 24.83 % and 51.22% of the investment, and the value of real option, using fuzzy logic is between 9.91% and 23.13% of the investment in a pessimistic scenario, and of the 10.04% and 39.08% of investment in an optimistic scenario, and for a experts scenario the option premium is between 10.00% and 26.91% of the investment, these are better results. ©2019, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Facultad de Contaduría y Administración.
