    Hedoné, teleíosis and enérgeia in Aristotle
    (2019)
    Hedoné, teleíosis and enérgeia in Aristotle · The aim of this paper is to discuss the Aristotelian defnition of pleasure in Nicomachean Ethics x 4. In those passages, Aristotle offers several arguments to prove that pleasure is not a movement (kínesis), or a coming into being. The nature of pleasure would imply a diferent kind of assimilation, something closer to an enérgeia. Even though, it is not clear in those texts, if pleasure is strictly speaking an activity or something that completes it. We fnd passages pointing out in both directions. In any case, a pleasure would complete an activity not as the inherent state does, but as an end which supervenes, just «as the bloom of youth does on those in the fower of their age». I will try to clarify the sense of this metaphor in the framework of Aristotle’s ontology and his ethical account in order to explain the Aristotelian defnition of pleasure.

    The Causality of the Prime Mover in Metaphysics Λ
    (2016)
    The aim of this paper is to propose a critical revision of the traditional interpretation of Met. Λ, according to which the Aristotelian Prime Mover is the final cause that explains the eternal movement of the heaven, rather than a formal or an efficient cause postulated for the same purpose. The importance of this discussion is widely acknowledged, and it is a subject upon which there is no unanimous agreement among interpreters. The different accounts of the causal relationship between the Unmoved Mover and the physical world have given rise to one of the most recurrent controversies in the history of the transmission of the Corpus Aristotelicum, and it is a question that does not admit simple or simplistic answers. ©2016 Walter de Gruyter GmbH

    Reflexión bioética interdisciplinaria en torno a la edición genética con CRISPR-Cas en línea germinal en el contexto del transhumanismo

    The purpose of this article is to explain some of the implications of using the CRISPR-Cas technique in the germinal line for non-therapeutic purposes, in the context of transhumanism. After giving a brief explanation about the nature of this technique, the state of the question is offered in relation to the current international regulations. Afterwards, the consequences of the development of this technique within the framework of the transhumanism project are observed and it offers legal, political and anthropological reflections on these consequences. © 2019 Centro de Investigacion Social Avanzada. Dios, causalidad y movimiento en la Suma Teológica de santo Tomás de Aquino
    (2022)
    This paper aims to offer a reconstruction of the First Way (Prima Via) proposed by Thomas Aquinas to demonstrate the existence of God in the Summa Theologiae. The Thomist argument in that work explains, first, what kind of rational discourse can be articulated to talk about God’s existence and essence. After he elaborates on the previous point, Aquinas proposes a series of arguments intended to resolve the question of the existence of a divine being and his attributes. In what concerns this present text, we will focus on the first way proposed there in favour of the thesis “God exists” and we will also talk about the discursive context in which this proof appears. Thomas refers to it as the first and clearest proof of them all. © 2022, Editorial Balmes. All rights reserved.

    Réplica a: nuevos sentidos del concepto de μίμησις en la poética de Aristóteles
    (Universidad Panamericana. Facultad de Filosofía, 2005)
    ;
    JOSE ALBERTO ROSS HERNANDEZ;39061
    “En la réplica, quisiera centrarme en dos cosas. En primer lugar, en el énfasis que pone la autora en la noción de "hilazon" (perainousa), pues resulta muy sugerente, incluso para la interpretación de otros textos del mismo Aristóteles, En concreto, me parece que esa noción puede ser interesante para un lector de las obras aristotélicas de Filosofía de la Naturaleza, como es mi caso. En la Física, por mencionar alguna de sus obras, Aristóteles echa mano en varias ocasiones de ejemplos tomados de la actividad artística como parte de su, argumentación”--Pág. [235].

    Abstracción y presencia : observaciones sobre los orígenes de la filosofía en Leonardo Polo
    (Universidad de Navarra, 2015)
    El propósito de este trabajo es presentar algunos aspectos de la recepción de la filosofía antigua en Leonardo Polo. En particular, este artículo se centrará en su explicación acerca del origen histórico del pensamiento filosófico. Polo sostiene que si la abstracción es la primera operación intelectual, la filosofía griega es la primera filosofía. En su opinión, su propuesta epistemológica tiene verificación histórica y apela a los filósofos antiguos para probarlo. En este contexto, sus referencias a los pensadores griegos tienen un propósito temático, y no sólo historiográfico. ©2016 Studia Poliana, Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Navarra

    Cause and Explanation in Ancient Philosophy
    (Routledge, 2023-01-01)
    ;
    Vázquez, Daniel
    This volume offers an updated analysis of the use, meaning, and scope of the classical notion of aitia. It clarifies philosophical and philological questions about aitia and offers bold and innovative interpretations of this key concept of ancient philosophy. The numerous meanings and nuances of aitia remain difficult to grasp. Ancient philosophers use aitia to explain the existence and activity of substances, bodies, souls, or gods. Paradoxically, its own definition remains difficult to establish. This book reconstructs some of the most important uses, variants, and scopes of the term aitia within different philosophical perspectives in antiquity, including early Greek philosophy, Plato, Aristotle, Stoicism, and Islamic philosophy. The chapters analyze metaphysical aspects, epistemological issues, and logical implications of aitia. They engage with the most relevant critical literature generated in several modern languages. In doing so, they offer an inclusive and overarching re-evaluation of our assumptions about causation and explanation in ancient philosophy. Cause and Explanation in Ancient Philosophy will be of interest to scholars and advanced students working on Pre-Socratic philosophy, Plato, Aristotle, Hellenistic philosophy, late antiquity, and medieval philosophy. ©Routledge.

    Strategy, Power and CSR: Practices and Challenges in Organizational Management
    (2020)

    Organizational management, along with strategy, is the most important part of business administration. Directors must know how to manage people, make decisions and, above all, have the ability to create strategies that help organizations achieve their objectives, greater strategic competitiveness, and above-average returns. In today’s global and complex environment, traditional views towards organizational management are not enough for businesses to thrive. It’s only by bringing together different approaches can management styles develop fast enough to keep pace with the ever-changing big picture. In this innovative new look at organizational management, expert authors Santiago García-Álvarez and Connie Atristain-Suárez explore how looking through lenses of philosophy, health, communication, law, engineering, pedagogy and policy can affect a modern organization’s prospects. Built through the collective and collaborative work of the research professors at the Universidad Panamericana, this work includes interdisciplinary approaches to real-world problems. For students and researchers of business and management, this is an unmissable read. ©2020 Emerald Publishing Limited.

    El propósito de este volumen es explorar e identificar algunas de las principales aportaciones de las lecturas medievales y renacentistas de Aristóteles al estudio de las relaciones y las tensiones que se dan en torno al binomio Ley-Naturaleza. A partir de este estudio, se busca generar un espacio abocado a discernir el perfil propio del pensamiento de Aristóteles y de sus distintas fases de recepción. Hemos reunido escritos que recogen múltiples miradas que van desde el dominio de la filosofía práctica y sus fundamentos metafísicos y antropológicos hasta los ámbitos de la Filosofía y la Historia del Derecho, la Ciencia Política, la Ética de la Economía y las Letras. De esta manera, buscamos un diálogo de amplitud interdisciplinar histórico-teórico que ayude a abrir el debate sobre estos temas en Iberoamérica. ©2020 Universidad Panamericana.
