Desde la Antigüedad, tanto proyectistas como constructores han dado la misma importancia al tratamiento del interior y el exterior en los espacios habitacionales. Pero en la segunda mitad del siglo XX, esta actividad casi desapareció. Muchos de los arquitectos, proyectistas y constructores más destacados en la historia de la Arquitectura solucionaron sus proyectos integralmente diseñando interiores y exteriores, mobiliario y accesorios. Esto se debe a que es el interior del espacio aquello que lo define en su uso y funcionamiento. Así aparece el Interiorismo como disciplina independiente de la Arquitectura, aunque íntimamente ligada a ella. El Diseño de Interiores implica una solución formal y funcional del espacio. El interiorista es un constructor de espacios internos dentro de envolventes preexistentes o por construirse, con la finalidad de adecuarlos a las funciones y necesidades de usuarios--directos e indirectos--y propietarios, tomando en cuenta factores de imagen, comodidad, economía y eficiencia del espacio.Interior Design has existed since the beginning of Architecture. Since ancient times, designers and constructors have given equal hierarchy to interior and external living space solutions. However, during the second half of the twentieth century, this activity seemed to be disappearing. Many of the better-known architects, designers and constructors have worked out integral project solutions designing interior and external spaces, furniture and accessories. This is so because the interior space is the one that defines the building in terms of its use and function. At this point. Interiors appears as an independent activity, though intimately related to Architecture. Interior Design represents a formal and functional space solution, an adequate lighting solution and acoustic conditions for such space according to its destination.
