The Role of Green Information Systems in India’s Environmental Sustainability: A Review-Based Perspective

As India pursues its sustainability and digital transformation goals under initiatives such as Digital India and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), the relevance of Green Information Systems (Green IS) has grown significantly. Despite increasing adoption of green practices in Indian enterprises, academic research on Green IS within the Indian context remains fragmented and underexplored. This study presents a systematic and comprehensive review of global and Indian academic literature on Green IS and juxtaposes it with insights from industry practices. The review identifies key thematic categories such as environmental sustainability, energy-efficient computing, green business processes, and IT-enabled eco-innovation. Furthermore, it highlights the limited contextual studies from India and suggests research directions to bridge the gap between global theory and Indian practice. Key limitations in existing literature, such as the absence of longitudinal studies and the lack of sector-specific research in emerging economies like India, are addressed. Future research should explore sectoral applications of Green IS in Indian SMEs, public services, and rural digital initiatives to align with India’s climate commitments and sustainable development goals. Recent studies emphasize the role of Green IS in reducing carbon footprints and enabling sustainable operations in Indian enterprises. The integration of Green IS in India’s smart city and digital governance initiatives is seen as critical to achieving long-term environmental goals. However, there remains a gap in localized, empirical research that captures how Green IS practices are adopted in diverse Indian contexts such as public administration, agriculture, and SMEs. ©The authors ©Springer.

Harnessing Information Systems for Sustainable Enterprise Development: A Systematic Literature Network Analysis

Information Systems (IS) are pivotal enablers of sustainable development, enhancing operational efficiency and resilience in enterprises and supply chains. This study applies a Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA) of 132 peer-reviewed articles to map research trends linking IS and sustainability. Citation Network Analysis identifies three principal research domains: sustainable competitive advantage, environmental sustainability, and sustainable online social communities, alongside emerging domains such as IS in developing countries and sustainable information infrastructures. Main Path Analysis (MPA) traces the intellectual evolution of these areas, revealing how IS integration with firm resources supports competitive differentiation and environmental performance, consistent with the Resource-Based View (RBV). Green IS initiatives mitigate environmental risks and are linked to improved financial outcomes. The study also highlights digital engagement dynamics in sustainable online communities, emphasizing member participation, social interaction, and thematic coherence. Overall, the findings align with the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework, demonstrating IS contributions across economic, environmental, and social dimensions of sustainability. Empowering equality: How the right to information fuels inclusive development

The Right to Information (RTI), grounded in Article 19(1) of the Indian Constitution, is widely regarded as a fundamental human right—one that upholds the dignity of every individual. Often referred to simply as the RTI Act, it empowers citizens to demand transparency and accountability from public authorities. However, to truly harness the potential of this right, there needs to be a significant shift in mindset—not just among the public, but also within the government, bureaucracy, and political leadership. It's essential to promote the understanding that the RTI is not a hurdle to governance, but rather a powerful tool for progress and growth. When embraced fully, the disclosure of information can foster trust, improve public service delivery, and strengthen democracy. This transformation in attitude can be achieved through widespread education, awareness campaigns, and training programs focused on the value of transparency. Historically, the media has played a vital role in spreading information, particularly during India’s struggle for independence against British rule. In today’s context, where India stands as the world’s largest democracy, the media’s responsibility has only grown. The success or failure of an organization hinges on the leadership qualities of its leaders. Effective leaders assist their subordinates in finding solutions to their challenges. Leadership in Indian Railways involves bringing together resources, formulating strategies, organizing, and controlling activities to achieve set objectives. Additionally, the leaders within Indian Railways are responsible for selecting goals, deciding on actions, and motivating people to carry them out. In essence, leadership in Indian Railways is a management function focused on setting goals and inspiring people to work towards achieving them. Leaders in Indian Railways guide their teams by setting clear objectives and helping subordinates navigate the best path to achieve these goals. Indian Railways leadership can be seen as the art or process of influencing people to work willingly and enthusiastically towards the accomplishment of group goals. Driving through demands: How self-efficacy shapes the impact of job stress on private bus drivers in India

This study investigates the relationship between various job demands namely, quantitative demands, work pace, emotional demands, and the demand to suppress emotions and their psychological and job-related effects, including stress, depressive symptoms, and job satisfaction, among private bus drivers in North India. A sample of 300 drivers was surveyed using a Hindi-translated version of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS to test the proposed research hypotheses. The findings highlight the significant moderating role of self-efficacy in this context. Specifically, self-efficacy was found to positively influence job satisfaction while mitigating levels of stress and depressive symptoms. Furthermore, job demands exhibited a substantial impact on the respondents, which was notably moderated by their self-efficacy levels. The study offers both practical and theoretical contributions by providing insights that can help bus operators develop targeted interventions to enhance driver well-being and job performance. Time management for leaders and impact on productivity: A review study

Increased productivity, action, and results are oriented towards the objectives of the organization and rely heavily on effective time management, which is among the critical attributes of a leader. This article argues that time management should be treated as a key skill among leaders, with a focus on the need for reserving time for what matters, effective delegation, and resolution of overstrain. This article addresses multiple streams that present the phenomenon of time management as a problem of leadership, productivity, and emotional intelligence in a remote and hybrid era. How time management is perceived in different cultures and time management in a globalized world are examined as well. Additionally, this study illustrates a positive relationship between efficient time organization and the performance of the organization, including creativity and motivation among employees. With the criticism of the literature already available, the possibilities for the practical application of such strategies as planning a management process and consideration of the trends are presented in a more general way.
