Item type:Publication, Ortotanasia, pauta y límite a la eutanasia(Hospitalidad ESDAI, 2007) ;Murguía Gutiérrez, María IsabelCampus Ciudad de MéxicoSince ancient times mankind has faced death with fear of death, however, nowadays he faces an even deeper fear of old age, sickness, pain, incapacity to see for oneself, dependency or the loss of physical and mental capacities which may appear before death itself. This situation causes diverse and extreme points of view. On one side there are people who are willing to hold on to life no matter the cost, on the other are those who find in euthanasia the only dignified and acceptable death. This has been a matter of great controversy and there is no consensus on the moral and legal implications of this practice which is considered illegal in most countries except the Netherlands and Belgium. Euthanasia becomes even more complicated when it encounters cases such as the consent of minors or people deprived of the capacity to express themselves due to factors such as mental retardation, coma, Alzheimer's etc., since the decision cannot come from them it falls on next of kin, social security or a judicial court. This is true of people who due mostly to old age, are unwilling continue living.8 462
