    Misoginia digital y respuestas Ć©ticas: anĆ”lisis de la Manosfera hispanohablante en X, TikTok y YouTube (2023–2025)
    Propósito. Analizar y comparar las narrativas misóginas dominantes en la Manosfera hispanohablante —MRAs, MGTOW, PUAs e incels— en X, TikTok y YouTube durante el periodo 2023–2025, identificando sus marcos discursivos centrales (victimismo masculino, economĆa sexual y disciplinamiento moral), las dinĆ”micas de interacción que las sostienen y los mecanismos de difusión interplataforma, con el fin de diseƱar estrategias de respuesta Ć©tica frente a la misoginia digital. MetodologĆa. Se desarrolló un estudio de mĆ©todos mixtos que integró detección asistida por inteligencia artificial de expresiones misóginas en espaƱol mediante un clasificador supervisado con validación humana, aplicado a un corpus estratificado de mĆ”s de un millón de publicaciones y comentarios; etnografĆa digital en veinte comunidades activas; y anĆ”lisis de co-ocurrencias narrativas y trayectorias de difusión entre plataformas. El diseƱo se rigió por principios de anonimización, minimización de datos y no amplificación de contenidos daƱinos. Resultados y conclusiones. Se identificaron tres macro-narrativas persistentes —discriminación inversa, economĆa sexual y antifeminismo cĆvico-punitivo— sostenidas por rituales de interacción como el humor insider, la jerarquización simbólica de gĆ©nero y la coordinación discursiva colectiva, asĆ como por flujos de circulación interplataforma. Las intervenciones de contradiscurso no confrontativo y estrategias de pre-bunking mostraron capacidad para reducir la adhesión a contenidos misóginos y promover respuestas prosociales. Aportación original. Se propone un marco integrado que combina detección computacional en espaƱol, etnografĆa digital y estrategias replicables de respuesta Ć©tica sensibles a las lógicas algorĆtmicas. Ā© Las autoras Ā© Universidad de Alicante. Purpose. To analyze and compare dominant misogynistic narratives within the Spanish-language Manosphere —MRAs, MGTOW, PUAs, and incels— across X, TikTok, and YouTube from 2023 to 2025, identifying their core discursive frames (male victimhood, sexual economy, and moral disciplining), the interaction dynamics that sustain them, and the mechanisms of cross-platform diffusion, in order to design ethically grounded responses to digital misogyny. Methodology. A mixed-methods study was conducted combining: (a) AI-assisted detection of misogynistic expressions in Spanish using a supervised classifier with human validation, applied to a stratified corpus exceeding one million posts and comments; (b) digital ethnography in twenty active Manosphere communities; and (c) analyses of narrative co-occurrence and interplatform diffusion pathways. The research design followed strict principles of anonymization, data minimization, and non-amplification of harmful content. Results and Conclusions. Three persistent macro-narratives were identified —reverse discrimination, sexual economy, and civic-punitive anti-feminism— sustained through interaction rituals such as insider humor, symbolic gender hierarchies, and coordinated discursive practices, alongside interplatform circulation flows. Low-confrontation counterspeech and prebunking interventions demonstrated potential to reduce misogynistic endorsement and increase prosocial engagement during early conversational stages. Originality. The article advances an integrated analytical framework that combines Spanish-language computational detection, digital ethnography, and a replicable toolkit of algorithmaware ethical response strategies, with direct implications for platform moderation and media literacy initiatives. El cuerpo gordo como pedagogía moral televisiva: melodrama y regulación cultural en Kilos Mortales México
    Este artículo analiza la serie televisiva Kilos Mortales México como un dispositivo cultural en el que convergen el melodrama, la biopolítica y la regulación afectiva del cuerpo. A partir de un enfoque cualitativo basado en el anÔlisis textual, visual y discursivo de episodios seleccionados, el estudio examina cómo el programa construye la gordura no solo como una condición médica, sino como un problema moral sometido al juicio público. Inscrito en los estudios culturales latinoamericanos y en diÔlogo con la teoría del melodrama, los estudios críticos de la gordura y la noción foucaultiana de gubernamentalidad, el artículo sostiene que la serie produce una pedagogía moral televisiva en la que la transformación corporal funciona como evidencia de mérito y disciplina. La pérdida de peso se convierte así en un ritual mediÔtico que traduce discursos biomédicos en obligaciones éticas familiarizadas. ©Las autoras © Pontificia Universidad Javeriana © Signo y Pensamiento. This article examines the television series Kilos mortales México as a cultural dispositive where melodrama and affective regulation of the body converge. Drawing on a qualitative approach based on visual and discourse analysis of the six episodes that comprise the first season, the study explores how the program constructs fatness not only as a medical condition but also as a moral problem subjected to public judgment. Situated within Latin American cultural studies and engaging with theories of melodrama, critical fat studies, and Foucauldian governmentality, the article argues that the series produces a form of televisual moral pedagogy in which bodily transformation functions as visible evidence of merit and discipline. Weight loss thus becomes a mediated ritual that translates biomedical discourses into familiarized ethical obligations, revealing how reality television participates in the cultural regulation of bodies in Latin America.© The authors © Pontificia Universidad Javeriana © Signo y Pensamiento.

    De la propaganda al cibercontrol afectivo: Cien aƱos de poder comunicacional y modulación algorĆtmica en AmĆ©rica Latina (1926–2024)
    (Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para América Latina, 2026) ; ;
    Este artĆculo analiza la transformación del poder comunicacional desde las tĆ©cnicas de propaganda estudiadas por Harold Lasswell en 1926 hasta las formas contemporĆ”neas de cibercontrol afectivo propias de los ecosistemas digitales latinoamericanos. A partir de un enfoque teórico-crĆtico que dialoga con Mills, Habermas, Castells, Mattelart y con el pensamiento comunicacional latinoamericano, se examina cómo estas mutaciones se manifiestan en MĆ©xico entre 2018 y 2024, un periodo marcado por polarización, operaciones coordinadas, desinformación y violencia polĆtica digital de gĆ©nero. El artĆculo propone el concepto de cibercontrol afectivo para explicar nuevas modalidades de modulación algorĆtmica basadas en la extracción de datos, la personalización de contenidos y la activación emocional que estructura la visibilidad en plataformas. El anĆ”lisis empĆrico, sustentado en investigación documental, anĆ”lisis crĆtico del discurso y netnografĆa, muestra que estas dinĆ”micas reajustan la esfera pĆŗblica y plantean desafĆos sustantivos para la deliberación democrĆ”tica en AmĆ©rica Latina. Se concluye que la transición de la propaganda al cibercontrol afectivo expresa un cambio estructural en la relación entre comunicación, afectos y poder. Ā© Las autoras Ā© Chasqui. Revista Latinoamericana de Comunicación Ā© Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para AmĆ©rica Latina. This article proposes the concept of affective cybercontrol to analyze the convergence of political intervention strategies, data extraction, platform architectures, and the activation of affects in contemporary digital environments. It is based on a documentary-conceptual analysis of 34 foundational and recent works on propaganda, the public sphere, mediations, platform capitalism, algorithmic governance, digital affectivity, and data dependency, with particular attention to scholarship and debates on communication and platforms in Latin America. Drawing on this corpus, the article examines the analytical limitations of widely used concepts—such as propaganda, psychopolitics, affective publics, and platform governance—for explaining recent transformations in communicative power in an integrated manner. Its main contribution is the formulation of a relational definition of affective cybercontrol and the development of an operationalization matrix that translates the concept into analytical dimensions, observable indicators, and criteria for future situated empirical research. The article argues that affective cybercontrol refers to a contingent capacity to modulate public circulation through the articulation of communicative strategies, datafication processes, algorithmic visibility, and affective repertoires. Rather than describing a form of total control or presuming causal effects on audiences, the concept provides an analytical framework for examining the relationship between platforms, power, and sociotechnical inequalities in Latin America. El hombre a lo largo de su vida cambia, nunca es igual, cada día es una nueva oportunidad de crecer y disfrutar, y esto se da porque la realidad nos obliga, pues el motor de la vida es el cambio. En ocasiones no nos proponemos ese cambio y es probable que no sea para mejorar, pero lo necesitamos dar para ver que rumbo va tomando nuestra vida. Este cambio es un proceso que si lo queremos entender lo tenemos que iniciar como la evaluación de las circunstancias que se nos presentan en nuestras vidas, necesitamos también tener disposición para aceptarlo y no olvidamos de dejar ir el pasado. Aunque yo se que es muy difícil dejar atrÔs las cosas, y mÔs aún dejar al paso, pues como seres humanos nos aterra cambiar, pues no sabemos si nos ira bien o mal, pero es el primer paso que debemos dar para cambiar. Ahora bien para poder dar esos cambios es importante antes que nada quererlos hacer, pues si no, no tiene caso nada, una vez que tienes la intención de hacer acciones, debes identificarlas para damos cuenta que lo que realmente valoramos y buscamos y así poder dirigir cambios positivos en nuestras vidas. La intención es individual lo que realmente queremos cada uno, pues no le puedes decir a otros lo que deben hacer, solo puedes aconsejar pero jamÔs imponer algo que no quieran hacer los demÔs.

    Gendered tourism imaginaries in European screen travel
    Streaming television shapes tourism imaginaries by circulating destinations before audiences travel. This article examines how Emily in Paris constructs gendered tourism imaginaries of Paris, Rome, and Venice. Through qualitative thematic and semiotic analysis of scenes selected from thirty episodes across five seasons, it brings feminist tourism theory into dialogue with mobility studies. Findings show that cities are framed as stylish, legible, safe, and frictionless spaces where female mobility signifies professional confidence, romantic freedom, consumption, and self-fashioning. Yet this postfeminist fantasy obscures the classed, racialised, and infrastructural privileges enabling such movement, alongside the invisible service labour sustaining tourism. It conceptualises audiovisual storytelling as communicative mobility: the transnational circulation of images, affects, routes, and expectations that renders destinations desirable before travel. Una mirada a las expectativas en la vejez desde las narrativas del cine mexicano

    The representation of old age in Mexican cine-ma is the starting point for analyzing the false stereo-types that are currently held about the elderly. The re-spect that different cultures used to give to the elderly has been lost and nowadays they are considered a work nuisance or a burden for their families, ignoring and discriminating against them. This research compares the films Por si no te vuelvo a ver (Juan Pablo Villaseñor, 1997) and En el último trago (Jack Zagha Kababie, 2015) in which a dif-ferent look is proposed, where the protagonists find the necessary motivation to fulfill a goal and face challeng-es and problems to achieve it. Thus they achieve a trans-formation in which they can enjoy their old age and live it to the fullest.

    Whiteness, Technological Capital and Platformed Interculturality: COIL Experiences in Latin America
    (Informa UK Limited, 2026)

    ;
    The internationalisation of higher education in Latin America has increasingly incorporated internationalisation-at-home initiatives, among which Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) has become central. Often framed as a democratising strategy for fostering intercultural competence, these initiatives operate within platform-mediated environments shaped by symbolic hierarchies, technological inequalities, and regimes of professional visibility. This article examines how whiteness – understood not as a phenotypic attribute but as an ethos of modernity and legitimation – is performed within digitally mediated intercultural encounters. The study analyses a tri-national COIL experience involving communication students from private universities in Peru, Mexico, and Colombia, conducted through the professional networking platform LinkedIn. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combines survey data from 119 students with qualitative analysis of 15 group-based digital self-presentation artefacts. Findings indicate that technological capital functions as a key symbolic divider, privileging visibility linked to technical fluency and professional respectability. A dissonance emerges between students’ declared commitments to intercultural openness and their interactional practices, which remain limited and exhibition-oriented. Cultural difference is frequently articulated through depoliticised and affectively safe repertoires, notably gastronomy. The article argues that digital internationalisation reconfigures interculturality as a regulated and aspirational practice aligned with global professional norms. Pop justice and viral shame: vernacular vigilantism in Mexico’s Lords and Ladys
    This article examines the phenomenon of balconeo in Mexico, a culturally form of digital vigilantism characterized by the viral exposure and shaming of individuals labeled as ā€œLordsā€ and ā€œLadys.ā€ Captured via smartphones and rapidly circulated on platforms such as TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube, these incidents generate affective publics engaged in what this study conceptualizes as ā€œpop justice.ā€ Drawing from affect theory, meme studies, and digital culture, this article analyzes ten emblematic balconeo cases (2015–2025) combining narrative reconstruction, discourse analysis, and meme semiotics. Memes function as affective technologies that frame deviance and regulate classed and gendered behaviors through ironic repetition and visual performance. Women are disproportionately subjected to extended cycles of symbolic punishment and gendered ridicule, while men are often framed through aggression or impunity. Situating balconeo as a participatory surveillance and moral pedagogy, the article contributes to debates on viral culture, affective publics, and informal justice in global digital contexts.
