    El experimento del cubo de agua de Isaac Newton

    Al terminar las Definitiones de sus Principia, Isaac Newton desarrolla el experimento del cubo de agua en el Scholium cuando se refiere al espacio absoluto, entramado necesario para su mecánica. Este ha suscitado numerosos estudios a lo largo de los siglos: aquí se analiza el objetivo e intenciones que el inglés buscó al incluirlo. Para ello, se expone el contexto histórico, la colocación del experimento en el Escolio, un breve estudio sobre qué es un experimento, el estudio del texto mismo y otros de Newton, y el análisis de los comentaristas al respecto.

    Philosophy and physics. Man and the external world. These subjects are inexplicably intertwined, and this paper explores the bonds between them. It starts by expanding on Descartes’ famous rationalist arguments in Meditations. It then moves on to questions of meaning and morality from Leibniz, Kant and Schopenhauer, and finishes by building man’s moral framework with arguments from Russell, Mills and Levi. This is all done within the context of man’s relationship to the external world, with the hope of reconciling the impersonal nature of science with the personal nature of philosophy.
