La importancia de la confianza personal e institucional para la internacionalización empresarial: El Caso de México

Small and medium-sized companies are the main engine of the Mexican economy; however, these companies often lack the knowledge and professionalization that would allow them to develop their potential. This is due to a lack of support from the governmental system, which has prevented them from developing as they should. This includes the internationalization process that small and medium-sized Mexican companies carry out, often in an empirical manner and without a specific direction to help them increase their chances of success abroad. That is why this research work seeks to explain which factors, specifically personal and institutional trust, have a determining influence on the internationalization process of small and medium-sized companies. This thesis consists of three chapters: The first, through the case study method, seeks to determine which factors are the determinants in the internationalization process of small and medium Mexican entrepreneurs, highlighting trust as one of them, which has been studied very little in the literature. In the second, through a survey of 103 entrepreneurs of the Mexican Confederation of Employers (COPARMEX), we seek to find the association between personal and institutional trust and the internationalization process of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs in Mexico. Finally, the third chapter seeks to find what relationship exists between the institutional trust of countries and the internationalization process of their entrepreneurs. This research concludes that trust is a determining factor for the successful internationalization of small and medium-sized Mexican companies. These companies can use the results of this research and future lines of research to professionalize their internationalization process and increase their chances of success.

Un Marco Organizacional para Microempresas Enfrentando Choques Exógenos: Un Enfoque de Sistema Viable.

This study addresses the problem of limited adaptive capacity in microenterprises, a phenomenon that contributes to the failure of 50% of new businesses during their first five years of operation. Unfortunately, organizational impacts are magnified by factors such as lack of working capital, deficient financial management, inadequate business education, regulatory capture and intensified competition due to globalization. This issue was initially observed in a food service microenterprise located in California’s Salinas Valley, where patterns of operational fatique, high staff turnover, service quality fluctuations and insufficient capacity to respond to seasonal demand variations were identified. This thesis is composed of five fundamental chapters. The first chapter examined the global context of microenterprises and their economic significance, as they represent a relevant sector for economic development. The second chapter addressed the theoretical framework, beginning with an examination of classical organizational theory and identifying its restricitions in contexts characterized by high dynamics. Subsequently, bureaucratic theory was reviewed, analyzing its contribution to organizational formalization while acknowledging its rigidity in the face of new adaptive needs. The review concluded with general systems theory, which presented an integrative framework allowing organizations to be conceptualized as open systems, capable of interacting dynamically with their environment. The third chapter developed a literature review of studies relating to the Viable System Model and Entrepreneurial Orientation within the institutionalization process of microenterprises, indentifying convergences and gaps in the existing literature. The Viable System Model was selected due to its capacity to analyze organizations as autonomous and adaptable systems, enabling the identification of internal functions that 7 sustain its viability in contexts of high uncertainty. This review academically justified the lack of specific models tailored for microenterprises. The fourth chapter presented an empirical review of cases involving microenterprises led by immigrant entrepreneurs. Through semi-structured interviews, the focus shifted to analyzing the Entrepreneurial Orientation components utilized by successful entreprenerus and how they were incorporated into their business operations. This analysis provided evidence underscoring the need for organizational structures that not only occommodate but also enhance entrepreneurial initiatives, establishing the emprirical base that justified the application of the Viable System Model. The fifth chapter implemented a Social Network Analysis to examine a bibliometric co- occurence network of keywords from academic publications, aiming to identify the critical Entrepreneurial Orientation factors relevant to microenterprises. The factors identified include innovation, autonomy, control during implementations, market orientation, and change management, all of which were categorized according to the five functions of the Viable System Model. The results suggested this conceptual framework strengthens organizational responsiveness in disruptive environments while promoting internal cohesion and more informed decisión-making. To understand how the identified critical factors interact and generate patterns of organizational strengthening or deterioration, the study employed System Dynamics as an analytical tool in chapter six. This methodology enabled the modeling of the system’s causal structure and the simulation of various operational scenarios, incorporating variables such as fatigue, experience, reputation, customers and revenue. The model applied evaluated the microenterprise’s performance under five contrasting configurations, validating the importance of coordination and organizational learning for the system. The key results showed that organizational viability did not depend on increased demand, but rather on the presence of internal structures capable of absorbing external impacts, learning, and maintaining operational consistency.

The research problem identified lies in the fact that, despite their critical importance, human competencies and operational factors often lack formal systematization within SME strategies, creating a structural disconnect that limits their competitiveness. In response, the purpose of this work is to design a systemic and empirically grounded training model that allows these comprehensive competencies to be formalized within the operational structure of SMEs. Under the meta-approach of Engaged Scholarship, a systemic multi-method design was implemented that integrated Grounded Theory and focus groups for qualitative diagnosis, articulated with the Viable System Model (VSM) and Social Network Analysis (SNA) for structural analysis. Subsequently, Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) were used to prioritize the factors found. The findings revealed that viability depends on underestimated factors such as accurate communication and failure prevention, which act as systemic preconditions for technological success. As a Contribution to Practice (CP), a model structured around five pillars is presented, which operationalizes the prioritized factors to provide staff with structural agility. The study adds theoretical value by applying Organizational Cybernetics to sales management, demonstrating that salesperson effectiveness depends on the alignment between their operational autonomy and organizational coordination, transcending the usual improvisation in the sector through a robust methodological architecture.

Actualmente, en la construcción, cada vez nos enfrentamos a una serie de diversos desafíos que impactan en tres rubros importantes: costo, tiempo y calidad. La volatilidad de los precios de materiales, la escasez de mano de obra calificada y los retrasos en los suministros de materiales en tiempo y forma han incrementado los riesgos financieros y la incertidumbre en la planeación. A su vez, la falta de una programación eficiente, la coordinación deficiente entre contratistas y proveedores, así como la ausencia de herramientas de control en tiempo real, provocan incrementos en el presupuesto y modificaciones al cronograma inicial. Estos factores no solo impactan la rentabilidad de los proyectos, sino que también comprometen la satisfacción del cliente y la competitividad de las empresas constructoras en un mercado cada vez más exigente. Para poder abordar esta problemática, se pretende, primero, hacer una descripción detallada acerca de las herramientas Lean que existen y cómo se pueden aplicar estos principios en una empresa, con la finalidad de conocer qué retos se presentan a la hora de su implementación, así como los beneficios que pueden traer. Se realizará también una encuesta que, al finalizarla, se analizarán los resultados obtenidos con el fin de poder concluir si las herramientas Lean disminuyen los costos, tiempos y mejoran la productividad en los proyectos de construcción de estructuras metálicas. La presente tesis plantea como hipótesis que la aplicación de herramientas Lean en un proyecto de estructura metálica, puede reducir tiempos de entrega, costos y mejorar la productividad. Para verificarlo, se establecen objetivos específicos orientados a medir el nivel de implementación Lean en el sector, así como cuantificar sus efectos en tiempo, costo y desempeño. Para poder llegar a una conclusión, se realizará una investigación documental que se verá complementada con trabajo de campo al realizar encuestas Finalmente, la tesis incluye un análisis FODA y CAME de la empresa donde laboro actualmente, en el cual se identifican las fortalezas, debilidades, oportunidades y amenazas en relación con la adopción de prácticas Lean. Finalmente, por medio de los resultados obtenidos de las encuestas y su análisis, se determina si la hipótesis es válida y se concluye al describir recomendaciones prácticas para la implementación de Lean Construction en proyectos de estructuras metálicas.

Durante el período en el que desempeñé el puesto de Directora Nacional del Departamento de Supervisión y Auditoría para una cadena de desarrollos turísticos de alto nivel, tuve la oportunidad de formar y desarrollar al equipo de trabajo y de crear un sistema que facilitó la gestión de sus responsabilidades mediante este Manual, ya que anteriormente no se contaba con una guía de trabajo práctica para realizar las funciones de revisión a cargo del área. El documento se realizó recopilando información, notas y experiencias acumuladas que recabé durante más de 7 años de trabajo en las áreas de costos, presupuestos, residencia de obra, Supervisión y Auditoría. Contiene también referencias, normas, tablas y la bibliografía correspondiente para consulta complementaria, de manera que procura en general, la correcta ejecución de las actividades particulares para supervisar un proyecto de construcción, desde los procesos iniciales hasta la terminación de acabados, equipamiento y amueblado.

This doctoral thesis analyzes the necessity of "refounding" the State of Jalisco through the enactment of a new Political Constitution, positioning it as the guarantor of a new social pact capable of addressing the region's contemporary challenges. Through a comprehensive review of constitutional theory, the history of federalism, and the specific constitutional antecedents of Jalisco, the author critiques the current excessive centralization of power by the Mexican federal government, as well as the prevailing problems of corruption, violence, and impunity. The research argues that the existing legal framework is insufficient to guarantee the well-being and security of the citizenry, proposing instead the convocation of a Constituent Assembly to draft a new constitution. This new instrument aims to recover state autonomy, strengthen institutions against corruption, and ensure the effective protection of human rights, effectively redefining the relationship between the government and the governed.

Actualmente los problemas que enfrentan las PYMES en la industria de la construcción, debido a la falta de planificación y organización, resultan en el desperdicio de recursos y retrasos en los proyectos. Destacando la necesidad de implementar sistemas de control eficaces, en particular sistemas ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), para mejorar la gestión y el cumplimiento de los objetivos. Primeramente, se llevó al análisis del significado, así como de las características que presenta un sistema ERP o sistema de planificación de recursos empresariales, el cual se define como un software modular integral, diseñado para gestionar eficazmente todos los recursos y operaciones de la empresa. El sistema integra diversos módulos como compras, ventas, almacenamiento, logística, facturación, contabilidad, recursos humanos y CRM, para centralizar la información en una única base de datos. Su principal objetivo es facilitar la integración entre departamentos que anteriormente utilizaban programas especializados separados para optimizar la gestión empresarial con datos en tiempo real. ERP es ampliamente apreciado por su capacidad para automatizar procesos, mejorar la eficiencia de la oficina y proporcionar información crítica para la toma de decisiones estratégicas dentro de una organización. Dando como resultado la recomendación de la creación de una guía práctica para ayudar a las PYMES a elegir e implementar un ERP adecuado, asegurando que sea fácil de entender y utilizar y así facilitar su implementación y optimización en la industria de la construcción.

La gestión efectiva de los procesos, en el ámbito de la construcción, es esencial para garantizar el éxito en la planeación y control de obra. En este contexto, la presente tesis se sumerge al mundo de la “Gestión de procesos para la planeación y control de obra”, explorando, a través de la investigación, la aplicación de estrategias y metodologías que optimicen la ejecución y buen control de proyectos constructivos. Esta investigación se sumerge en el análisis de las prácticas actuales en la gestión de procesos, aplicadas a la planeación y control de obra, identificando áreas de mejora y proponiendo soluciones innovadoras. A través de un enfoque disciplinario, se explorarán conceptos de gestión de proyectos, tecnologías emergentes y buenas prácticas, con el objetivo de ofrecer recomendaciones concretas y aplicables a la realidad constructiva actual. La relevancia de este estudio contribuye al avance del conocimiento en la gestión de procesos, específicamente adaptada al sector de la construcción. Se espera que los resultados obtenidos sirvan como guía para profesionales, empresas y entidades involucradas en proyectos de obra, fomentando le eficiencia y la calidad en la ejecución de proyectos. En conclusión, la “Gestión de procesos para la planeación y control de obra” es un campo dinámico que merece una atención minuciosa. A través de esta tesis, se busca aportar conocimientos valiosos que impulsen a la mejora continua de la industria de la construcción, contribuyendo a la excelencia en la ejecución de proyectos y al logro de resultados exitosos.

This thesis evaluates the economic feasibility of integrating bioclimatic strategies and energy efficiency measures into a horizontal housing development in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico, aiming to promote sustainable construction practices that are financially viable. Employing a comparative methodology, the research utilizes Design Builder software to simulate and analyze the thermal performance and energy consumption of standard "base" housing prototypes versus "improved" models that incorporate passive design elements such as optimized orientation, thermal mass, and insulation . The study concludes that such integration is highly profitable; specifically, the optimized prototype (VMT+C) achieved a 54.1% reduction in annual energy consumption and projected economic savings of approximately $641,977 MXN over its lifespan, demonstrating that sustainable housing offers significant long-term value for both investors and residents despite potentially higher initial costs .
