    Eutrapelia: Aquinas and Aristotle: In his discussion of the virtue of eutrapelia (Nicomachean Ethics IV.8, 1127b33-1128b7), Aristotle brings up the primacy of personal prudence over the moral law: the practically wise man is a law to himself. This principle represents a challenge for Thomas Aquinas, who feels uncomfortable with such moral autonomy. This article analyzes the Aristotelian account of eutrapelia, then examines the Aquinas’s comments ad locum, and ends pointing out how, in a passage very little studied, Aquinas’s Christianity had an effect and moves him to reinterpret the thesis of moral autonomy, turning it into a more harmless one. ©2017, Revista de Filosofía, Universidad del Zulia.
