Fasting might affect attentional processes; however, its effects on quantitative electroencephalographic activity (qEEG) remain unclear. We used an n-back task to assess the effects of an 18-hour fasting period on behavior and qEEG absolute power. Twenty-six participants performed the experimental task with two cognitive load levels during fasting and regular breakfast in different sessions. Artifact-free epochs were selected for further analysis between conditions. The higher cognitive load affected accuracy, which decreased, while frontal and parietal theta power increased. We also found greater absolute theta power magnitudes for the left-frontocentral locations and a significant interaction between cognitive load and recording site, reflecting the greater increase in left-central parietal locations. Alpha increased in left-frontocentral locations. Although fasting did not considerably vary EEG power, there was a relevant fasting-related increase in theta power over frontal areas, probably reflecting transient changes in cognitive control mechanisms.

Objective: Obesity represents a health risk and several studies have linked this clinical entity to cognitive deficits. Among the neuropsychological rehabilitation tools, Peak, a digital application, has shown positive results as a therapeutic method. The aim of this work was to measure, for the first time, cognitive deficits and the effects of Peak digital cognitive neurohabilitation therapy in patients diagnosed with obesity. Methods: Peak treatment was offered to the parents who agreed and lasted 6 months, including the neurocognitive evaluation. The patients used Peak five times a day for 20 min. The Neuropsychological Attention and Memory Battery (NEUROPSI) was applied before and after the intervention. Results: The results revealed posttest changes in attention and executive function, memory, and total attention and memory. Significant clinical changes were observed, and the diagnostic range increased from severe to moderate. Conclusions: We concluded that, through an intervention with the Peak app, it is possible to enable attention and memory, which represent the main cognitive deficits in obese pediatric patients. ©The authors ©Brain Sciences ©MDPI.

The Intentional Structure of Image: Attentive Meaning and Image Consciousness in Husserl’s Phenomenology
(Universidad Panamericana. Facultad de Filosofía, 2023)
    Scanziani, Andrea
This article considers Edmund Husserl’s description of image consciousness from the viewpoint of the role played by attentive meaning (meinen) in the intention of the image subject. We argue that the intention of the image subject has to be interpreted in the sense of the attentive meaning as presented in the second partof Husserl’s 1904/5 lecture on Phenomenology and Theory of Knowledge. Attentive meaning performs 1) the segregation of a specific appre-hension along with the attentive articulation of experience, and 2), as a formative and preferential function, it introduces a differ-ence in the objective consideration. First, we explain the connec-tion between apprehension, attentive meaning, and object; then, we clarify the relationship between apprehension and attentive meaning in image consciousness in the 1898 manuscripts and the 1904 lecture; finally, we set forth the motivation for the intending of the image subject on the basis of the image apprehension
