Purpose. To analyze and compare dominant misogynistic narratives within the Spanish-language Manosphere —MRAs, MGTOW, PUAs, and incels— across X, TikTok, and YouTube from 2023 to 2025, identifying their core discursive frames (male victimhood, sexual economy, and moral disciplining), the interaction dynamics that sustain them, and the mechanisms of cross-platform diffusion, in order to design ethically grounded responses to digital misogyny. Methodology. A mixed-methods study was conducted combining: (a) AI-assisted detection of misogynistic expressions in Spanish using a supervised classifier with human validation, applied to a stratified corpus exceeding one million posts and comments; (b) digital ethnography in twenty active Manosphere communities; and (c) analyses of narrative co-occurrence and interplatform diffusion pathways. The research design followed strict principles of anonymization, data minimization, and non-amplification of harmful content. Results and Conclusions. Three persistent macro-narratives were identified —reverse discrimination, sexual economy, and civic-punitive anti-feminism— sustained through interaction rituals such as insider humor, symbolic gender hierarchies, and coordinated discursive practices, alongside interplatform circulation flows. Low-confrontation counterspeech and prebunking interventions demonstrated potential to reduce misogynistic endorsement and increase prosocial engagement during early conversational stages. Originality. The article advances an integrated analytical framework that combines Spanish-language computational detection, digital ethnography, and a replicable toolkit of algorithmaware ethical response strategies, with direct implications for platform moderation and media literacy initiatives.
This article examines the television series Kilos mortales México as a cultural dispositive where melodrama and affective regulation of the body converge. Drawing on a qualitative approach based on visual and discourse analysis of the six episodes that comprise the first season, the study explores how the program constructs fatness not only as a medical condition but also as a moral problem subjected to public judgment. Situated within Latin American cultural studies and engaging with theories of melodrama, critical fat studies, and Foucauldian governmentality, the article argues that the series produces a form of televisual moral pedagogy in which bodily transformation functions as visible evidence of merit and discipline. Weight loss thus becomes a mediated ritual that translates biomedical discourses into familiarized ethical obligations, revealing how reality television participates in the cultural regulation of bodies in Latin America.© The authors © Pontificia Universidad Javeriana © Signo y Pensamiento.

    Reframing Interculturality: Visual Sovereignty and Feminist Indigenous Audiovisual Collectives in Mexico
    (Informa UK Limited, 2026)
    This article examines feminist Indigenous audiovisual collectives in Mexico as sites of visual sovereignty and intercultural knowledge production. Challenging liberal multicultural approaches that frame interculturality through state recognition and cultural inclusion, it argues that Indigenous women's media practices exceed these frameworks. Drawing on Indigenous media theory, decolonial feminist thought and intercultural studies, the article conceptualizes visual sovereignty as a relational and epistemic practice grounded in territoriality, collective authorship and gendered Indigenous knowledge. Through qualitative analysis of audiovisual productions associated with Proyecto Videoastas Indígenas de la Frontera Sur (PVIFS) and K'inal Antsetik, it shows how these practices challenge dominant regimes of visibility, unsettle cultural citizenship and articulate belonging beyond state-centered models. Testimonial practices, community-based knowledge and territorial relations emerge as strategies through which Indigenous women assert epistemic authority and reshape intercultural dialogue. By bringing visual sovereignty into conversation with intercultural studies, the article advances a decolonial feminist perspective that reconceptualizes interculturality as an epistemic field of struggle rather than a policy framework for diversity management. ©The author. © Journal of Intercultural Studies.

    De la propaganda al cibercontrol afectivo: Cien aƱos de poder comunicacional y modulación algorĆtmica en AmĆ©rica Latina (1926–2024)
    (Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para América Latina, 2026) ; ;
    Este artĆculo analiza la transformación del poder comunicacional desde las tĆ©cnicas de propaganda estudiadas por Harold Lasswell en 1926 hasta las formas contemporĆ”neas de cibercontrol afectivo propias de los ecosistemas digitales latinoamericanos. A partir de un enfoque teórico-crĆtico que dialoga con Mills, Habermas, Castells, Mattelart y con el pensamiento comunicacional latinoamericano, se examina cómo estas mutaciones se manifiestan en MĆ©xico entre 2018 y 2024, un periodo marcado por polarización, operaciones coordinadas, desinformación y violencia polĆtica digital de gĆ©nero. El artĆculo propone el concepto de cibercontrol afectivo para explicar nuevas modalidades de modulación algorĆtmica basadas en la extracción de datos, la personalización de contenidos y la activación emocional que estructura la visibilidad en plataformas. El anĆ”lisis empĆrico, sustentado en investigación documental, anĆ”lisis crĆtico del discurso y netnografĆa, muestra que estas dinĆ”micas reajustan la esfera pĆŗblica y plantean desafĆos sustantivos para la deliberación democrĆ”tica en AmĆ©rica Latina. Se concluye que la transición de la propaganda al cibercontrol afectivo expresa un cambio estructural en la relación entre comunicación, afectos y poder. Ā© Las autoras Ā© Chasqui. Revista Latinoamericana de Comunicación Ā© Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para AmĆ©rica Latina. This article proposes the concept of affective cybercontrol to analyze the convergence of political intervention strategies, data extraction, platform architectures, and the activation of affects in contemporary digital environments. It is based on a documentary-conceptual analysis of 34 foundational and recent works on propaganda, the public sphere, mediations, platform capitalism, algorithmic governance, digital affectivity, and data dependency, with particular attention to scholarship and debates on communication and platforms in Latin America. Drawing on this corpus, the article examines the analytical limitations of widely used concepts—such as propaganda, psychopolitics, affective publics, and platform governance—for explaining recent transformations in communicative power in an integrated manner. Its main contribution is the formulation of a relational definition of affective cybercontrol and the development of an operationalization matrix that translates the concept into analytical dimensions, observable indicators, and criteria for future situated empirical research. The article argues that affective cybercontrol refers to a contingent capacity to modulate public circulation through the articulation of communicative strategies, datafication processes, algorithmic visibility, and affective repertoires. Rather than describing a form of total control or presuming causal effects on audiences, the concept provides an analytical framework for examining the relationship between platforms, power, and sociotechnical inequalities in Latin America. Layered narrative sovereignty: communicative authority and hybrid infrastructures in Mexican Indigenous and community media
    (Frontiers Media SA, 2026)
    Indigenous and community media in Latin America increasingly circulate through digital environments that include externally governed platform infrastructures. This article examines how three Mexican media organizations—Radio Tosepan Limakxtum, Radio Tsinaka, and Ojo de Agua Comunicación—exercise narrative sovereignty under these conditions. Drawing on a comparative qualitative content analysis of 24 publicly accessible communication units, the study analyzes the articulation of Indigenous-language use, community voice, cultural identity, territory, memory, community knowledge, autonomy and rights, collective action, gender, environment/extractivism, collaboration, and translocal circulation. The analysis distinguishes three related but analytically separate dimensions: narrative authority, organizational media capacity, and infrastructural configuration. The findings show that the three organizations sustain distinct forms of communicative authority while operating through heterogeneous combinations of community radio, organizational websites, audiovisual archives, streaming services, collaborative networks, and external digital platforms. Rather than treating platform presence as equivalent to communicative dependence, the analysis shows that narrative sovereignty can operate across hybrid infrastructures that combine organizational, collaborative, and externally governed channels. The article argues that narrative sovereignty is therefore best understood as layered: communicative authority may remain substantial even when circulation occurs across infrastructures governed by different actors. Ɖrase una vez en Hollywood. La aventura de Walt Disney y el I Seminario de educación visual
    In 1944, Walt Disney launched the Reading for the Americas project, an ambitious plan for literacy in Latin America promoted by the Office of the Coordinator of Internal Affairs (OCAIA), which tries to solve the idea of goodwill and neighborhood proclaimed by the United States in middle of war. This article aims to document an almost unknown chapter in this adventure: the organization of the I Seminar on Visual Education, which was designed from the Disney studios in Hollywood, outlined based on the Mexican experience and a precursor to initially literate adults of all of Latin America through the use of 16mm cinema. Through the compilation of specialized archives in Mexico and based on a chronological follow-up of the activities that took place in said seminar, two paradigms raised at this meeting became triggers for the failure of the Disney project and its implementation in the American continent: teaching methodologies and projection without a proper understanding of what that region really was, coupled with political propaganda that was tried to filter by any means in all areas.

    La familia mexicana en la pantalla grande
    (Minos Tercer Milenio, 2017) ;
    ALMA DELIA ZAMORANO ROJAS; 36360
    Desde sus inicios el cine mexicano ha encontrado en la familia el tema perfecto para comunicar a la sociedad una forma de pensamiento en torno al deber ser de esta legendaria institución, Asimismo, ha transmitido normas culturales a las nuevas generaciones, en especial al grupo social representado: la familia burguesa patriarcal, tanto nuclear como extensa. Su eje rector ha sido el melodrama en su mÔximo esplendor, y sus personajes han dado origen a imaginarios que permanecen generación tras generación: la estampa patriarcal, figura y guía de autoridad suprema; los hijos que eternizan el rol de obediencia, lealtad, respeto y, finalmente, la representación quizÔs mÔs emblemÔtica del cine mexicano en este rubro: la madre sufrida y abnegada.

    Gendered tourism imaginaries in European screen travel
    Streaming television shapes tourism imaginaries by circulating destinations before audiences travel. This article examines how Emily in Paris constructs gendered tourism imaginaries of Paris, Rome, and Venice. Through qualitative thematic and semiotic analysis of scenes selected from thirty episodes across five seasons, it brings feminist tourism theory into dialogue with mobility studies. Findings show that cities are framed as stylish, legible, safe, and frictionless spaces where female mobility signifies professional confidence, romantic freedom, consumption, and self-fashioning. Yet this postfeminist fantasy obscures the classed, racialised, and infrastructural privileges enabling such movement, alongside the invisible service labour sustaining tourism. It conceptualises audiovisual storytelling as communicative mobility: the transnational circulation of images, affects, routes, and expectations that renders destinations desirable before travel. Una mirada a las expectativas en la vejez desde las narrativas del cine mexicano

    The representation of old age in Mexican cine-ma is the starting point for analyzing the false stereo-types that are currently held about the elderly. The re-spect that different cultures used to give to the elderly has been lost and nowadays they are considered a work nuisance or a burden for their families, ignoring and discriminating against them. This research compares the films Por si no te vuelvo a ver (Juan Pablo Villaseñor, 1997) and En el último trago (Jack Zagha Kababie, 2015) in which a dif-ferent look is proposed, where the protagonists find the necessary motivation to fulfill a goal and face challeng-es and problems to achieve it. Thus they achieve a trans-formation in which they can enjoy their old age and live it to the fullest.

    Sin duda alguna, hay un antes y un después de la pandemia por el Covid-19. La Humanidad ha experimentado numerosos cambios que han afectado todos los Ômbitos: sociales, culturales, económicos, políticos, educativos, etc. transformando prÔcticamente el mundo, la forma de mirarlo y la vida en él. Esta transmutación ha ingresado en el devenir del crecimiento de la ciencia, de la docencia y de la investigación, en suma, una de las consecuencias mÔs palpables de este proceso ha sido el uso de las herramientas informÔticas para acercar los conocimientos a los estudiantes en formación y a los investigadores. Nuestra revista ha hecho eco de esta tendencia, al igual que otras publicaciones de carÔcter periódico, y dedicó uno de los números anteriores a mostrar los aspectos teóricos de tales recursos didÔcticos y sus aplicaciones en el campo de las disciplinas comunicativas. Una de estas disciplinas, el cine (y productos audiovisuales emergentes) ha sido el propósito de la presente entrega, concretamente la industria cinematogrÔfica en tiempos de pandemia y de pospandemia, en la que al parecer se impone el aprovechamiento de las nuevas experiencias ahora que la luz comienza poco a poco a recuperar y propiciar la antigua normalidad.
