Abstract
This essay questions not only the existing studies on the Count Dracula archetype, most of which try its understanding through his personal characteristics such as being not alive, having authority, and being thirsty for human blood, but also proposes a philosophical explanation that allows a deep reading of evil as the total absence of hospitality. Dracula is one of the most feared villains of the West because he seduces his victims under the principle of hospitality, for later abusing of his position of control over them. Evil has the function of reminding us that despite our rationality and our attempt to perfection, there are contingency patterns that may avail chaos and destruction at any time.
