Forma y libertad. La religión como unidad cultural en Ernst Cassirer

En el presente artículo se estudia la experiencia religiosa como un momento de encuentro y unidad cultural. A partir de la filosofía de la Religión propuesta por Ernst Cassirer en El pensamiento mítico, se elabora una interpretación de dos textos: el encuentro entre San Juan Diego y la Virgen María (Tonantzin Guadalupe) y Moisés y la Zarza ardiendo (Yavhé); con ambos análisis se manifiestan dos resultados centrales: que la advertencia emotiva, denominado por Cassirer como “expresión simbólica”, constituye el fundamento del encuentro y unidad entre el ser humano y la divinidad y que dicha expresión simbólica implican actividades rituales mediante las cuales la comprensión del misterio es posible.

This article studies the religious experience as a moment of encounter and cultural unity. From the philosophy of Religion proposed by Ernst Cassirer in Mythical Thought, an interpretation of two texts is elaborated: the encounter between San Juan Diego and the Virgin Mary (Tonantzin Guadalupe) and Moses and the Burning Bush (Yahweh); with both analyses two central results are manifested: (1) that the emotional warning, denominated by Cassirer as “symbolic expression”, constitutes the foundation of the encounter and unity between the human being and the divinity and (2) that such symbolic expression implies ritual activities through which the understanding of the mystery is possible.
