Abstract
Cleaning is an inherently human activity; any space inhabited or used as a workplace must devise the best way to keep it clean and tidy. However, cleaning is different from one place to another. In the case of hospitals, this activity becomes very important because there are more resistant microorganisms in clinics, and patients usually have diminished defenses. Cleanliness in hospitals therefore requires professional staff that have specific knowledge about how to combat nosocomial infections and thus develop an effective hygiene. Supplying patients with a safe environment requires a commitment to the policy recommendations about hand hygiene, and proper cleaning and disinfection of medical equipment and surfaces. Cleaning, disinfection and sterilization saves lives and improves patient outcomes.
