Active vibration in civil structures using negative acceleration feedback

This paper presents the implementation of a controller based on Negative Acceleration Feedback (NAF) applied in a building-like experimental platform representing a civil structure. The system was modeled using the Euler-Lagrange formalism and the system's experimental resonant frequencies were obtained using the peak-picking method. An advantage of modal control for experimental applications is that it is not necessary to derive a mathematical model for the system to apply such controller which performs well for displacement and vibration reduction while keeping global stability. In particular, this paper addresses the case of an external force exciting the base of the structure. Numerical results demonstrate the controller's performance. © 2017 IEEE.
