Labor harmonization perception: case of a private higher education institution in Mexico

This research addresses the perception of labor harmonization in a private Higher Education Institution in Mexico. Through the social representations method, 9 focus groups were conducted with the participation of 42 members of management committees, whose main findings deal with the meaning of labor harmonization, how it is theoretically understood and advocated, and how difficult it is to conduct it. Some factors involved in achieving this were discovered: children and caregivers, marital status and workloads. Some elements that promote it within the institution are: flexible schedules, support networks made up of the family, the boss and the work team, as well as the presence of a woman president. Drawbacks to its implementation have also emerged. Some strategies, strengths, challenges and areas of opportunity were identified in the interviewees. Undoubtedly, progress has been made, but there is still a long way to go, thus glimpsing that labor harmonization continues to be a challenge that requires co-responsibility between women and men, where they converge in a machinery that leads them to live in harmony in all the dimensions of their lives, since the way to approach it must be done with no confrontation or guilt, but in synergy with all those involved. ©The authors ©International Review of Sociology © Informa UK Limited.

Sin duda alguna todos hemos tenido buenos y malos maestros, pero siempre hemos tenido alguno del cual esperábamos su clase, la disfrutábamos minuto a minuto y no queríamos que se acabara; queríamos más, y en el momento que daba término el curso, sentíamos la nostalgia que nos dejaría un ser que logró trascender y dejarnos una huella profunda. Este tipo de personas logran conquistar —y a la vez hacen un arte— de lo que se puede llamar: gobierno de clase.

Cara al encuentro del alumno con el ámbito profesional, la evaluación universitaria cobra una importancia radical en el Proceso Enseñanza-Aprendizaje. Pero no puede tratarse, de ninguna manera, de una simple verificación numérica de lo que el profesor ha buscado transmitir. Una verdadera evaluación –en cualquier grado, pero aún más en el universitario– requiere tener como objetivo valorar la auténtica formación de cada estudiante. Es por ello que la evaluación buscará ser continua, integral, sistemática. Se trata, entonces, de un instrumento flexible que proporciona un conocimiento profundo del alumno y que, gracias a ello, permite ayudarlo para mejorar su Proceso Enseñanza-Aprendizaje. Vista así, la evaluación es un termómetro creativo que utiliza el docente comprometido en la mejora del alumno, de sí mismo y de la sociedad.

El gobierno de clase se puede definir como la dirección de una clase, una sesión, un curso, etc. El control efectivo que el pedagogo debe lograr haciendo que sus educandos se interesen en su clase y por tanto se cree y se mantenga una atmósfera cálida, un ambiente armónico que invite al trabajo y a la reflexión profunda.
