Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) continues to stand as a critical global healthcare challenge. Current projections suggest that AMR could become the leading cause of death by 2050, potentially surpassing cancer mortality rates [1]. The urgency for novel therapeutic agents was further underscored by the 2020 pandemic, which shifted antibiotic consumption patterns and accelerated the emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) “superbugs” [2]. In this precarious landscape, Antimicrobial Peptides (AMPs) represent a transformative frontier. Unlike traditional antibiotics, AMPs typically target microbial membranes, a mechanism that significantly diminishes the likelihood of resistance development [3,4]. The conventional discovery of AMPs is a laboratory-intensive process often hampered by prohibitive costs and protracted timelines. This Special Issue, “A 2026 Update on Computational Approaches to the Discovery and Design of Antimicrobial Peptides”, showcases the power of in silico methodologies to accelerate the identification and optimization of these therapeutic candidates [5]. ©The authors ©MDPI.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has emerged as a cornerstone in addressing global health challenges, accessibility needs, and promoting overall wellbeing. Article 9 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities highlights ICT accessibility as integral to ensuring equity and inclusion for persons with disabilities (PwDs) (World Health Organization, 2023). The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates over one billion individuals live with disabilities, 80 % of whom are in low-income regions. These individuals face compounded challenges of exclusion and poverty, exacerbated by limited access to affordable and inclusive technologies (United Nations, 2025). © The authors © Elsevier.

In late modernity, social and economic responses to ecological, health-related, and societal challenges have focused on the quest for production and profit. In doing so, they have relied on impersonal frameworks that result in environmental damage and consider human beings' very right to flourishing irrelevant or peripheral. Consideration of the person as the core catalyst for creating a more humane and sustainable future therefore remains a crucial task. In light of this, it needs to be asked whether our theoretical understandings of human beings, their action and their potentiality are genuinely fit for the complicated challenges we face. © Frontiers in Communication

Optimization Methods, Mobile Networks and Data Analytics: Applications in Engineering and Industry 4.0 : Editorial
The business world is changing and demands the integration of various engineering techniques to make the operation of the system in general more efficient. Optimization, information security and a prospective business vision is essential for companies to be more productive. The application of new technological solutions to manufacturing and management processes is one of the ways through which digital transformation in the supply chain advances, on the road to industry 4.0. To achieve this, optimization techniques, soft-computing, machine learning and Big Data technologies must be combined. With this integration it is possible to work with real-time sensed data to build and simulate Digital Twins with very high precision. © Springer Nature
