    Charity is the master path of the social doctrine of the Church, as all the responsibilities and commitments conceived by this doctrine come from the charity, according to the teachings of Jesus. By its close relationship with the truth, charity can be recognized as an authentic expression of humanity and as an element of essential importance in human relations, as well as in those of public nature. The encyclical Caritas in veritate is a teaching for Christians, as for anyone who needs clear reasoning to understand the concept of the human sense of development and peace in the current times of economic crisis.

    Bread is an inspiration for both cooks and intellectuals. We offer here a brief reflection regarding the relationship of bread with the Christian habit of hospitality, ESDAI's reason to be. From the Book of Genesis, Christian teaching has been to feed the visitor, to receive him well with the intent of meeting his most urgent needs. In the Western world, the tradition of baking has its deep family, social and commercial roots. The religious, political and social contexts are also reflected in this noble food, which is a current representation of human labor.

    When New Spain was being Christianized, confrontation arose not only between different cultures and life conceptions, but also between two different ideas respecting deity. On one hand were the multiple Mesoamerican gods associated with corn and on the other, the Mediterranean God associated with wheat. Since they both are cereal grains of civilization, mothers of diverse cultures, the following questions arise: How does one join these two mentalities and effectively Christianize without eradicating corn? How did the missionaries practically achieve this endeavor? A lot of imagination must be put into this.

    Nos encontramos ante una obra exhaustiva allí donde no parecía posible la exhaustividad: la historia de la recepción de san Agustín. Pone de manifiesto la presencia del Hiponense en su campo más usual de estudio como resulta la teología, sin dejar de lado la variedad de la temática que trató a lo largo de décadas de estudio, reflexión y escritura: teoría política, ética, música, educación, semiótica, literatura, filosofía, psicología, religión y cultura (p. 4). Además de prestar el servicio de organizar el conocimiento consolidado sobre san Agustín, abre nuevas sendas para la investigación; de hecho, la investigación que en ese sentido se produzca desde ahora no será enteramente posible sin este recurso (p. 5). Dada la vastedad de los temas tratados y lo intrincado del recorrido de esta herencia, The Oxford Guide to the Historical Reception of Augustine (en adelante, OGHRA) adopta un modelo híbrido: el volumen 1 está organizado como un Companion, mientras que los volúmenes 2 y 3 siguen un modelo más bien enciclopédico. El vol. 1 está compuesto de quince artículos que proporcionan “bocetos en parte cronológicos, en parte temáticos, que apuntan a sintetizar patrones cualitativos (el énfasis está en el original) y a resaltar características específicas de recepción, que no serán necesariamente evidentes a partir de los lemas individuales per se” (Pollmann, pp. 4-5).
