    This manuscript presents the development and testing of a novel model designed to help organizations, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), address the challenges of integrating new technologies within the frameworks of Industry 4.0 and 5.0. The proposed model is a metamodel that evaluates organizational and contextual vulnerabilities concerning both existing technologies and potential external technologies under consideration for adoption. It synthesizes three foundational frameworks: the Viable System Model (VSM), the principles of viable and sustainable systems, and the Technology, Organization, and Environment (TOE) Model. The findings demonstrate the practical applicability of this model in an SME context, showcasing its ability to facilitate the gradual and sustainable adoption of new technologies. By aligning business needs with technological solutions and leveraging insights from computer science and organizational cybernetics, the model adapts to varying levels of technological adoption, integrating organizational dynamics and business evolution to support the implementation of emerging technologies.

    In this paper, the authors present a new algorithm efficient solution to the packing problem in two dimensions. The authors propose a new heuristic using the value of the electromagnetic field to determine the best position to place a circular object in a configuration of other circular objects previously packed. Also, this algorithm simulates two processes to compact objects already placed, inspired by gravitational forces, to minimize the empty space in the container and maximizing the number of objects in the container. To determine the efficacy of this algorithm, the authors carried out experiments with twenty-four instances. Parallel computing can contribute to making decision processes such as optimization and prediction more agile and faster. Real-time decision making involves the use of solution methodologies and algorithms. For this reason the present manuscript shows an alternative for the solution of a classic industry problem that must be solved quickly. Packaging optimization can help reduce waste of container material. The material used to transport the products can reduce its environmental impact due to an efficient packaging process. Light-weighting can also be accomplished by reducing the amount of packaging material used. © Springer Nature

    Profile of the Business Science Professional for the Industry 4.0
    (2022)
    The development of the fourth industrial revolution called Industry 4.0 has generated a significant boost in areas related to information technology. However, this development has permeated into other areas such as business sciences. Based on a systematic literature review, the main areas of development of business sciences were identified within the framework of industry 4.0, this, in turn, generates the need to update profiles and capacities for professionals. The large areas identified are auditing, finance, accounting, and planning, among others. The need for the comprehensive development of all areas of knowledge in the digital age is evident. Changes in the mode of production, trade, and interaction between individuals have permeated all areas and business science is no exception. © Springer Nature

    Valuation of an investment project in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry
    (2018)
    Cruz Aranda, Fernando
    ;
    En la presente investigación se realiza la evaluación del proyecto de inversión en investigación y desarrollo para la innovación y de gran impacto en la industria farmacéutica. La evaluación del proyecto se realiza a través de opciones reales de tipo americano, basada en árboles binomiales que incorporan la volatilidad sobre los flujos de efectivo esperados para determinar el beneficio de posponer un proyecto a tres años, brindando flexibilidad a los inversionistas en su toma de decisiones. Además, en la valoración de la opción real asociada al proyecto, la teoría de conjuntos difusos se incorpora en el proceso de asignación de posibilidades en los árboles binomiales. El valor de la opción real de tipo americano para posponer el proyecto oscila entre el 24,83% y el 51,22% de la inversión, y el valor de la opción real, utilizando la lógica difusa entre 9.91% y 23.13% de la inversión en un escenario pesimista, y del 10,04% y 39,08% de la inversión en un escenario optimista, y para un escenario de expertos la prima de la opción se encuentran entre: 10,00% y 26,91% de la inversión, estos son mejores resultados. ©2019, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Facultad de Contaduría y Administración.
