Entering the labour force is onerous and one of the first obstacles is, on occasion, the competence shortcomings of university students. To correct the excess of a decontextualized theory, the EHEA (European Higher Education Area) has sponsored a methodological change that encourages more practical teaching, since the most effective learning is active and connected with experience. In this way, university teaching focuses, among other aspects, on achieving learning results in the form of competences associated with the labour market. In this context, more practical and applied methodologies are being tested at the university, including Service-Learning. The objective of this study is to find out whether, for the employers participating in our study, the university students who participate in these Service-Learning activities develop the competency profile they are looking for, making them more attractive candidates in the selection processes, consequently improving their employability. Generic quantitative research has been carried out. A purposive sampling of the employers of graduates from different university faculties was adopted. Three focal groups were formed using a topic guide, which addressed: the professional competences most demanded by employers; the repercussion of the teaching focus on employability; the social involvement capacity of their employees; Service-Learning and its influence on professional profile. 13 employers from different fields participated. Audio clips of the focal groups were recorded and their transcription was analysed by two researchers using content analysis. In the view of the employers consulted, students who participate in Service-Learning activities at the university develop some of the most in-demand professional competences, which positively affect their employability.

This paper intends to discuss the concern both in national and international environments about job creation and the perspective of discouraging scenarios for young graduates who are willing to find where to apply the knowledge acquired during their academic life, trying to convert it into a better standard of living and that, however, it is complex to achieve as a result of the current economical situation. The graduates of ESDAI are no exception to the above scenario; however, it is important to note that through the profile obtained in the course of their degree, and the philosophy of life of the institution, which is characterized by hospitality, differ from other related academic degrees. Thus, despite the latest crisis that has beaten all productive activity, the hospitality industry, which resides in the services sector, shows a degree of stability for which the ESDAI student becomes a competitive advantage that turns into an economic growth.

    Una economía de la hospitalidad

The present article is based on the idea that economic growth does not guarantee the solution of the problems of distribution, due to the fact that the union of the economic and the social is not automatic. The solution to the employment crisis will only be feasible when a multitude of behaviors and social functions are modified. These modifications must go far beyond economy, in the strict sense, and which the author includes under the generic term of hospitality as the opposite to the exclusion of the unemployed. It appears that in the present day we are assisting a perverse autodestruction of solidarity and promoting a generalized irresponsibility. A stricter formulation of the social debt is necessary, as is the reinforcement of the sense of belonging to the community and understanding of society as an agreed space for redistribution, which is designed as the recognition of a mutual debt. Politics has the precise task of contributing to the maintenance of stable social links, making them visible and practical through the supporting of values and giving order to public aspirations
