    Evoluciones del lenguaje cinematográfico en la era digital
    (Universidad Hemisferios., 2015)
    Los códigos estéticos y narrativos del medio audiovisual, instituidos por el cine y luego extendidos a la televisión y los otros formatos audiovisuales, se han visto constantemente innovados a lo largo de la historia a causa de los distintos cambios sociales y tecnológicos, así como de las propias experimentaciones creativas de los autores. La era digital, coincidente con la posmodernidad, ha tenido un modo propio de influir en este desarrollo del lenguaje cinematográfico a partir factores como la cultura visual de los espectadores, los otros medios narrativos y el soporte digital junto con el auge de internet que ha propiciado un cambio significativo en el cine como industria y como arte. © El autor © Comhumanitas. Violence and fire in Latin American women’s scripts: Tatiana Huezo (Prayers for the Stolen, 2021, Mexico) and Claudia Huaiquimilla (My Brothers Dream Awake, 2021, Chile)
    (Intellect, 2025) ;
    González Itier, Sebastián
    In recent years, Latin American films written and directed by women have increased in both number and global reach. In 2021, two films directed by Latin American women were released at major film festivals: Tatiana Huezo’s Prayers for the Stolen (2021, Mexico), which was shown at Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival, and Claudia Huaiquimilla’s My Brothers Dream Awake (2021, Chile), which had its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival. Both films share the fact that they are written and directed by Latina women with indigenous heritage. Moreover, Prayers for the Stolen and My Brothers Dream Awake have elements in common: both portray the current violence in their countries and use fire as a narrative and an aesthetic element. Fire distances itself from its destructive and overpowering context to become a purifying and expiatory element, whereby the stories and the characters are simultaneously condemned and saved by their relationship with the fire. This text seeks to relate the meaning of fire to the violence portrayed in these two films, either as a destructive or purifying element. This understanding can also be linked to the Indigenous roots of both directors, where the relationship of native peoples with fire is different from that in contemporary society. ©The authors © Intellect.

    El cuerpo gordo como pedagogía moral televisiva: melodrama y regulación cultural en Kilos Mortales México
    Este artículo analiza la serie televisiva Kilos Mortales México como un dispositivo cultural en el que convergen el melodrama, la biopolítica y la regulación afectiva del cuerpo. A partir de un enfoque cualitativo basado en el análisis textual, visual y discursivo de episodios seleccionados, el estudio examina cómo el programa construye la gordura no solo como una condición médica, sino como un problema moral sometido al juicio público. Inscrito en los estudios culturales latinoamericanos y en diálogo con la teoría del melodrama, los estudios críticos de la gordura y la noción foucaultiana de gubernamentalidad, el artículo sostiene que la serie produce una pedagogía moral televisiva en la que la transformación corporal funciona como evidencia de mérito y disciplina. La pérdida de peso se convierte así en un ritual mediático que traduce discursos biomédicos en obligaciones éticas familiarizadas. ©Las autoras © Pontificia Universidad Javeriana © Signo y Pensamiento. This article examines the television series Kilos mortales México as a cultural dispositive where melodrama and affective regulation of the body converge. Drawing on a qualitative approach based on visual and discourse analysis of the six episodes that comprise the first season, the study explores how the program constructs fatness not only as a medical condition but also as a moral problem subjected to public judgment. Situated within Latin American cultural studies and engaging with theories of melodrama, critical fat studies, and Foucauldian governmentality, the article argues that the series produces a form of televisual moral pedagogy in which bodily transformation functions as visible evidence of merit and discipline. Weight loss thus becomes a mediated ritual that translates biomedical discourses into familiarized ethical obligations, revealing how reality television participates in the cultural regulation of bodies in Latin America.© The authors © Pontificia Universidad Javeriana © Signo y Pensamiento.

    Misoginia digital y respuestas éticas: análisis de la Manosfera hispanohablante en X, TikTok y YouTube (2023–2025)
    Propósito. Analizar y comparar las narrativas misóginas dominantes en la Manosfera hispanohablante —MRAs, MGTOW, PUAs e incels— en X, TikTok y YouTube durante el periodo 2023–2025, identificando sus marcos discursivos centrales (victimismo masculino, economía sexual y disciplinamiento moral), las dinámicas de interacción que las sostienen y los mecanismos de difusión interplataforma, con el fin de diseñar estrategias de respuesta ética frente a la misoginia digital. Metodología. Se desarrolló un estudio de métodos mixtos que integró detección asistida por inteligencia artificial de expresiones misóginas en español mediante un clasificador supervisado con validación humana, aplicado a un corpus estratificado de más de un millón de publicaciones y comentarios; etnografía digital en veinte comunidades activas; y análisis de co-ocurrencias narrativas y trayectorias de difusión entre plataformas. El diseño se rigió por principios de anonimización, minimización de datos y no amplificación de contenidos dañinos. Resultados y conclusiones. Se identificaron tres macro-narrativas persistentes —discriminación inversa, economía sexual y antifeminismo cívico-punitivo— sostenidas por rituales de interacción como el humor insider, la jerarquización simbólica de género y la coordinación discursiva colectiva, así como por flujos de circulación interplataforma. Las intervenciones de contradiscurso no confrontativo y estrategias de pre-bunking mostraron capacidad para reducir la adhesión a contenidos misóginos y promover respuestas prosociales. Aportación original. Se propone un marco integrado que combina detección computacional en español, etnografía digital y estrategias replicables de respuesta ética sensibles a las lógicas algorítmicas. © Las autoras © Universidad de Alicante. Purpose. To analyze and compare dominant misogynistic narratives within the Spanish-language Manosphere —MRAs, MGTOW, PUAs, and incels— across X, TikTok, and YouTube from 2023 to 2025, identifying their core discursive frames (male victimhood, sexual economy, and moral disciplining), the interaction dynamics that sustain them, and the mechanisms of cross-platform diffusion, in order to design ethically grounded responses to digital misogyny. Methodology. A mixed-methods study was conducted combining: (a) AI-assisted detection of misogynistic expressions in Spanish using a supervised classifier with human validation, applied to a stratified corpus exceeding one million posts and comments; (b) digital ethnography in twenty active Manosphere communities; and (c) analyses of narrative co-occurrence and interplatform diffusion pathways. The research design followed strict principles of anonymization, data minimization, and non-amplification of harmful content. Results and Conclusions. Three persistent macro-narratives were identified —reverse discrimination, sexual economy, and civic-punitive anti-feminism— sustained through interaction rituals such as insider humor, symbolic gender hierarchies, and coordinated discursive practices, alongside interplatform circulation flows. Low-confrontation counterspeech and prebunking interventions demonstrated potential to reduce misogynistic endorsement and increase prosocial engagement during early conversational stages. Originality. The article advances an integrated analytical framework that combines Spanish-language computational detection, digital ethnography, and a replicable toolkit of algorithmaware ethical response strategies, with direct implications for platform moderation and media literacy initiatives. © The authors © Universidad de Alicante.

    Reframing Interculturality: Visual Sovereignty and Feminist Indigenous Audiovisual Collectives in Mexico
    (Informa UK Limited, 2026)
    This article examines feminist Indigenous audiovisual collectives in Mexico as sites of visual sovereignty and intercultural knowledge production. Challenging liberal multicultural approaches that frame interculturality through state recognition and cultural inclusion, it argues that Indigenous women's media practices exceed these frameworks. Drawing on Indigenous media theory, decolonial feminist thought and intercultural studies, the article conceptualizes visual sovereignty as a relational and epistemic practice grounded in territoriality, collective authorship and gendered Indigenous knowledge. Through qualitative analysis of audiovisual productions associated with Proyecto Videoastas Indígenas de la Frontera Sur (PVIFS) and K'inal Antsetik, it shows how these practices challenge dominant regimes of visibility, unsettle cultural citizenship and articulate belonging beyond state-centered models. Testimonial practices, community-based knowledge and territorial relations emerge as strategies through which Indigenous women assert epistemic authority and reshape intercultural dialogue. By bringing visual sovereignty into conversation with intercultural studies, the article advances a decolonial feminist perspective that reconceptualizes interculturality as an epistemic field of struggle rather than a policy framework for diversity management. ©The author. © Journal of Intercultural Studies.

    Layered narrative sovereignty: communicative authority and hybrid infrastructures in Mexican Indigenous and community media
    (Frontiers Media SA, 2026)
    Indigenous and community media in Latin America increasingly circulate through digital environments that include externally governed platform infrastructures. This article examines how three Mexican media organizations—Radio Tosepan Limakxtum, Radio Tsinaka, and Ojo de Agua Comunicación—exercise narrative sovereignty under these conditions. Drawing on a comparative qualitative content analysis of 24 publicly accessible communication units, the study analyzes the articulation of Indigenous-language use, community voice, cultural identity, territory, memory, community knowledge, autonomy and rights, collective action, gender, environment/extractivism, collaboration, and translocal circulation. The analysis distinguishes three related but analytically separate dimensions: narrative authority, organizational media capacity, and infrastructural configuration. The findings show that the three organizations sustain distinct forms of communicative authority while operating through heterogeneous combinations of community radio, organizational websites, audiovisual archives, streaming services, collaborative networks, and external digital platforms. Rather than treating platform presence as equivalent to communicative dependence, the analysis shows that narrative sovereignty can operate across hybrid infrastructures that combine organizational, collaborative, and externally governed channels. The article argues that narrative sovereignty is therefore best understood as layered: communicative authority may remain substantial even when circulation occurs across infrastructures governed by different actors. ©The author. ©Frontiers Media.

    Relaciones de poder entre políticos y periodistas: ruedas de prensa sobre la relación entre Estados Unidos y México en la primera era Trump
    (Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, 2025)
    Este artículo busca identificar la relación de poder establecida entre políticos y periodistas en ruedas de prensa sobre la relación bilateral entre Estados Unidos y México en 2017-2021. Se analizaron ruedas de prensa concedidas por representantes gubernamentales estadounidenses y mexicanos. Se utilizaron modelos de comportamiento en la relación de poder entre periodistas y políticos, teorías sobre los roles de periodistas y políticos en ruedas de prensa, y sobre tipos de preguntas y respuestas. A lo largo del texto, se analizó el contenido para identificar actores, temas, tipos de pregunta y respuesta, así como al análisis de discurso para exponer y comentar las preguntas y respuestas. Los temas predominantes de la investigación son la migración, la evolución de la relación bilateral, la seguridad y la renegociación del TLCAN. Se hacen más preguntas “inquisitivas” que “procedimentales” y los representantes políticos responden enfatizando los puntos de interés común y “matizando” las declaraciones de Trump. El modelo de relación de poder predominante es el “modelo de intercambio”. El análisis permite determinar el nivel de transparencia ofrecido por las instituciones gubernamentales. También se puede discernir qué modelo de relación de poder predomina en el intercambio entre políticos y periodistas. © La autora © Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. This article aims to identify the power relationship established between politicians and journalists in press conferences on the bilateral relationship between the United States and Mexico in 2017-2021. Press conferences given by US and Mexican government were analyzed. Behavior models used to analyze the power relationship between journalists and politicians, theories about the roles of journalists and politicians in press conferences, and theories about types of questions and answers. Throughout the text, press conferences available on the websites of the US Department of State and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs are taken as a sample. Content analysis is used to identify actors, topics, types of question and answer, and discourse analysis is used to present and comment on the questions and answers. The predominant topics are migration, the evolution of the bilateral relationship, security and the renegotiation of NAFTA. More “inquisitive” than “procedural” questions are asked. Political representatives respond by emphasizing points of common interest and “nuancing” Trump’s statements. The predominant power relationship model is the “exchange model”. The analysis allows for the determination of the level of transparency offered by government institutions. It is also possible to discern which model of power relationship predominates in the exchanges between politicians and journalists. © The author © Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.
