    Objetivo: Este trabajo aborda como el ambiente de trabajo puede mediar la relación interpersonal con el jefe y la satisfacción laboral de los bibliotecarios que laboral en las bibliotecas de pregrado y posgrado de universidad públicas de alto prestigio que se encuentran en México. Método: Conceptualmente, se parte de que la satisfacción laboral en las organizaciones está compuesta por factores no sólo intrínsecos, sino también extrínsecos en base a la Teoría de los Dos Factores de Herzberg, de donde el ambiente laboral es crucial. Además de una revisión sistemática exhaustiva de la bibliografía sobre la temática, se trianguló la recolección y análisis de los datos con 290 encuestas a través de Microsoft Forms a bibliotecarios de las universidades públicas: Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG) y la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), que se encuentran dentro del ranking de las 5 mejores universidades mexicanas. El análisis estadístico de datos se llevó a cabo con los programas SPSS 29.0 y Smart PLS 4.1.0.9. Resultado: A medida que mejora la relación con el jefe, también se perciben un mejor ambiente de trabajo y mayor satisfacción laboral. Conclusiones: Se concluye que, para lograr que haya satisfacción laboral en los bibliotecarios de universidades, es importante una óptima relación interpersonal con el jefe y esto a su vez genera un ambiente laboral sano, lo anterior sin tomar en cuenta factores externos como son los escenarios políticos, social, económicos, entorno familiar, aspectos de salud, etc. © Los autores © Encontros Bibli: revista eletrônica de biblioteconomia e ciência da informação © Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). Objective: This study examines how the work environment may mediate the interpersonal relationship with the supervisor and the job satisfaction of librarians working in undergraduate and graduate libraries at highly prestigious public universities in Mexico. Method: Conceptually, it is based on the assumption that job satisfaction within organizations is composed not only of intrinsic but also extrinsic factors, grounded in Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory, in which the work environment plays a crucial role. In addition to an exhaustive systematic literature review on the topic, data collection and analysis were triangulated through 290 surveys administered via Microsoft Forms to librarians from the public universities: Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG), and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), which are ranked among the top five Mexican universities. Statistical data analysis was conducted using SPSS 29.0 and SmartPLS 4.1.0.9. Results: As the relationship with the supervisor improves, a better work environment and higher job satisfaction are also perceived. Conclusions: It is concluded that achieving job satisfaction among university librarians requires an optimal interpersonal relationship with the supervisor, which in turn fosters a healthy work environment, without considering external factors such as political, social, and economic contexts, family environment, health aspects, among others. Public Diplomacy: European and Latin American Perspectives
    (Peter Lang, 2016) ;
    Azpíroz, María-Luisa
    ;
    Public diplomacy is a diplomatic and international communication activity aimed at foreign publics and seeking to create a positive image and/or political influence, contributing to the achievement of foreign policy goals.|| On June 9th, 2015, public diplomacy scholars and practitioners coming from Europe and Latin America gathered in a research seminar organised by the Centre for International Relations Studies (CEFIR), at the University of Liège. They contributed their works on public diplomacy from the perspectives of its cultural, communicative and image components. The result of that seminar is this book, which reflects the current diversity of theoretical aspects and practices of public diplomacy. || Taking the European Union, some Latin American countries (Venezuela and Mexico) and even civil society organisations as the actors whose public diplomacy actions are studied, this book provides both reflections and empirical analysis of public diplomacy strategies developed from different angles. ©P.I.E. Soft Power and Public Diplomacy: The Case of the European Union in Brazil
    (Figueroa Press, 2018)
    This research starts from the hypothesis that public diplomacy helps the European Union (EU) strengthen its soft power. Given the significance of Brazil as a strategic partner in Latin America, it is therefore important to identify and analyze the ways in which the EU has developed its public diplomacy with this country. With the aim of contributing to the analysis of the EU’s international activities from the perspective of public diplomacy, the following questions will be answered: Which public diplomacy activities does the EU practice in Brazil? Which challenges and opportunities does the EU face in the application of soft power? This article firstly develops a theoretical framework on the EU’s soft power resources. Secondly, a contextual framework is presented regarding the EU’s relations with Latin America, Mercosur, and Brazil in the last three years (2011-2013), which coincide with the start of the supranational and official EU diplomatic service: the European External Action Service (EEAS). Finally, there follows the identification and analysis of EU public diplomacy activities in Brazil. This research draws upon existing academic publications, official EU documents and websites, and interviews with personnel from the EEAS (in Brussels and Brasilia) and DG Development and Cooperation (DG DEVCO). ©The author ©Figueroa Press. .

    Framing the 'Clash of Civilization' in Europe: Interaction between Political and Media Frames
    (Academic Journals, 2009)
    La Porte, Teresa
    ;
    The present study reviews the foci, symbols and interpretations that the European media use to formulate and spread the political message about the “clash of civilizations”. This means observing how this cultural clash is articulated in political discourse and how this is then reflected in the leading European media. To carry out this study, we compared the frames found in several significant political discourses (Bush, Ahmadinejad, Sarkozy, Gül) and those encountered in the coverage of these same discourses in the following European newspapers: The Guardian, Le Monde, Frankfürter Allemaigne. Through this specific case, the research also explores what is the process of the frame elaboration and which conditions make political discourse more effective and attractive for the media to assimilate them. ©The authors ©Journal Media and Communication Studies. Shooting Movies: Effects of Gun and Firearm Exposure in Popular Films on Gun Use Self-Efficacy and Gun Attitudes/Beliefs
    (SAGE Publications, 2025)
    Lapierre, Matthew A.
    ;
    Sada Garibay, Cecilia
    Gun violence in the United States is a public health crisis with debates raging about the role of guns in American society. The current study examined how exposure to guns in movies may shape attitudes/beliefs about guns and the mediating role of gun use self-efficacy as a potential mechanism for effects, using a retrospective survey with 612 undergraduates. Increased exposure to guns in movies was correlated with less support for gun control and stronger beliefs that guns make society safer. Importantly, gun use self-efficacy was a significant mediator between movie exposure and gun control. © The authors © SAGE.

    Situating Skills: Emergent Dynamic Reconfigurations of Activities in the Transition from a Learning Environment to Another

    The paper aims to provide a broad construct for understanding skills, what they are, and the ways in which they are situated, i.e., dependent on the conditions for their exercise. Adding to Hinchliffe's approach, we made skills’ transferability not only a key aspect of their conceptualization but also a way of exploring their deeply embodied nature and their intricate relation with complex situations. While there is a growing body of research regarding concrete aspects of embodied cognition in learning environments, little attention is given to skilful performances while transferring them into different (mediatized and non-mediatized) learning environments. Our theoretical and empirical investigation offers a preliminary picture of how skills are reconfigured and redeployed in transitioning from one learning environment to another. Regarding the structure of skill, we enlarged Hinchliffe’s approach, integrating the perspective of conversational analysis. The structure of skills can be made explicit if we follow their build-up from simple abilities and their integration into larger structures. According to our view, being skilful means that one can cope with scripted and unscripted interactions and move easily between them ©The authors ©Meta ©Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi.
