Abstract
The article proposes a reading of María Zambrano’s thought through the articulation of poetic reason, myth, and symbolic femininity, taking the Moon as an axial figure. It explores how poetic reason emerges as a form of knowledge that challenges the Enlightenment logos by integrating the affective and the intuitive. Within this framework, the Moon symbolizes a cyclical knowledge that organizes a constellation of feminine mythical figures: Artemis, Hecate, Persephone, Demeter, Antigone, Medusa, and Diotima. These figures, traditionally marginalized by patriarchal thought, are revalued by Zambrano as carriers of a subterranean and visionary wisdom. Poetic reason thus appears as an epistemic pathway capable of restoring what was excluded by modern reason: body, emotion, dream, and delirium. Consequently, Zambrano’s philosophy inscribes itself within a feminine genealogy of knowledge, where thought does not impose itself through clarity but rather springs from the fertile shadow, following the rhythm of the Moon. © 2026 Masaryk University.
