    Personal Competencies for Work–Family Integration and Its Relationship with Productivity and Comprehensive Health in Salaried Professionals

    <jats:p>Work–Family Integration (WFI) is the decision-making process that enables an individual to effectively balance work, family, and personal responsibilities, generating a level of personal satisfaction aligned with the management of these demands. This research aims to explore the potential links between personal competencies facilitating work and family integration (WFI Competencies), employer-provided support (WFI Support), perceived satisfaction in role integration (WFI Satisfaction), and their association with organizational performance indicators and the overall health of professionals in dependent employment. Data were obtained via an online questionnaire administered to 270 professionals possessing a university education or higher, employed in public or private organizations spanning various sectors in Venezuela. The data were subsequently analyzed utilizing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The study was divided into two main parts: the factorial analysis (both exploratory and confirmatory) of measurement models and the analysis of the relationships and modeling inherent to the structural model. Initially, two diagnostic instruments were developed, one for WFI Competencies and another for WFI Indicators; though applied simultaneously, their structuring and validation were conducted separately. In the subsequent phase, conceptual models for structural analysis were defined. A positive relationship was observed between WFI Support and WFI Satisfaction, corroborating findings from previous research. The relationships between WFI Competencies and Satisfaction led to insights into the necessity of training to strengthen the personal decision-making process under the dual pressures of work and family roles. Future longitudinal studies could elucidate the effects of relationships within such programs on WFI Satisfaction. Concerning organizational indicators, this study found that WFI Satisfaction positively correlates with organizational commitment, enhancing work productivity and mitigating negative health effects. This research presents a model that could be replicated in other countries and with various sample types, facilitating comparative analyses that enrich the body of knowledge on this subject.</jats:p>

    Analysis of Purchase Intention for Biopreservative-Treated Chicken and Consumer Segmentation Using Unsupervised Machine Learning
    Biopreservatives are emerging as a promising alternative to conventional food preservation methods. However, there is limited empirical evidence integrating validated psychometric instruments with advanced unsupervised segmentation techniques to identify heterogeneous consumer profiles regarding biopreserved chicken consumption. To address these limitations, self-organizing maps (SOMs) have been widely used as unsupervised learning tools that reduce dimensionality, preserve topological relationships, and facilitate the visualization of latent structures in multivariate datasets. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the acceptance of biopreservation in chicken consumption through a strategic segmentation based on unsupervised machine learning and behavioral dimensions. This methodological design enables the capture of behavioral heterogeneity, the identification of strategic consumption profiles, and the generation of empirical evidence to support future research and communication strategies related to biopreservation technologies in similar consumer contexts. In this study, 323 instances were topologically organized into 16 clusters, grouping individuals with similar behavioral patterns. The descriptive analysis of clusters revealed highly differentiated consumer profiles in terms of Consumer acceptance, cold chain practices, and Knowledge of food microorganisms. The high-acceptance exploratory segment achieved the maximum score (5.00) in knowledge of beneficial microorganisms (V14), acceptance of their use in chicken preservation (V15), and familiarity with lactic acid bacteria (V16). The three-dimensional structure identified through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) not only provided statistical validation of the instrument but also established a conceptual framework for interpreting the SOM’s topology. From a practical perspective, the findings highlight the relevance of consumer heterogeneity and suggest that consumer knowledge may play an important role in the acceptance of biopreservation technologies. These findings provide useful insights for future studies aimed at understanding the factors that influence consumer acceptance of biopreservation technologies. © The authors © Applied Sciences © MDPI.

    BIOPLASTIC MADE OF ORANGE PEELS

    <jats:p>This study uses orange peel waste to create a biopolymer that can be used for different purposes. In order to achieve this, we evaluated various technologies for the production of the biopolymer, and tried to design the most environmentally friendly process possible. One of the reasons why this bioplastic should be manufactured is to participate in the replacement of common environmental hazardous plastic, which has been banned in many places. On the other hand, using orange peel as the main ingredient is an alternative and gives value to an organic waste that has limited use in circular economy solutions. In this research we present a methodology to create a bioplastic of orange peels. As a result, we obtained a biodegradable, flexible and resistant material to be used in the manufacture of containers, utensils, etc. In addition, it is a material that, given the raw materials used, is considered GRAS (Generally Recognized As Save), implying a non-toxic product that is safe for the consumer.</jats:p>
