    Interplay between deficit ideologies and leaders’ self-efficacy in dropout prevention: a case study of U.S. urban high school principals

    Researchers examined principals’ perceptions of their abilities and efforts to prevent dropouts in their diverse high schools. Two concepts, self-efficacy and deficit thinking, were used to frame principals’ beliefs. A large urban school district in the southwest region of the country served as the backdrop. The student population was exceptionally diverse. Three high school principals having diverse backgrounds participated. However, in general, the principals interpreted the problem through the lens of their personal background. A sense of empathy was noted throughout their commentaries. A sense of empathy emerged throughout their commentary. Implications for school leaders are discussed

    Diverse specialists, mostly anthropologists, state that the two main identity traits of people or communities are the mother tongue and food. There are many examples of this. For instance, the remarkable way in which Mexicans who forcefully or willingly emigrate to the United States maintain their mother tongue but more so their culinary customs. Some of these customs, as is the case of the «tortilla» have gone beyond the Mexican and Chicano communities and have been embraced by thousands of North Americans. The same is true in other countries with emigration. Our country has not only been the scenario for multiple cultural interchanges, but has also received, since the conquest, numerous foreign groups.

    Estampas de la guerra de propaganda entre México y Estados Unidos en 1938

    La expropiación de la industria petrolera extranjera en marzo de 1938 fue un momento clave en la vida del México posrevolucionario. Por su carga simbólica propició la cohesión ideológica en el proceso de formación de una nueva identidad nacional anclada en los postulados de la Revolución y de la Constitución de 1917. En lo económico, echó los cimientos del modelo de desarrollo mexicano que persiste al día de hoy. Y en materia de política internacional, una de sus consecuencias fue intensa y prolongada guerra de propaganda entre México, EUA Inglaterra.
