    How water quality affects perceived risk of waterborne disease: evidence from Zapopan, Mexico
    (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2026-02-06) ; ;
    Background Access to safe and clean drinking water is a key determinant of public health and well-being. This study explores the relationship between perceived unpleasant odor of tap water (as a proxy of water quality) and perception of health risks from tap water, in low- and middle-income areas of Mexico, emphasizing the role of perceptions shaped by sensory indicators such as taste, color, and odor. The connection between perceived unpleasant odor of tap water and perceived risk warrants attention as a public health concern, given its potential to influence consumer behavior, risk exposure, and trust in health-related products and services. Methods The analysis draws on household survey data collected through face-to-face interviews in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, in October 2018, complemented with a review of existing literature. Statistical regression models were executed to assess the association between perceived water quality and perceived health risk from drinking tap water. Results The analysis shows that households perceiving an unpleasant odor in tap water had 29% higher odds of identifying it as a health risk (OR = 1.29), controlling for socioeconomic and demographic conditions. Conclusions The findings underscore the need for public health interventions that address both actual and perceived water quality. Integrated water policies should prioritize equity, strengthen community trust, and incorporate engagement strategies to mitigate health risks linked to water insecurity.

    Econometría en tu idioma
    (Universidad Panamericana, 2025) ;
    Luquín-García, Dolores
    Nacido del aula y la inquietud estudiantil, Econometría en tu idioma transforma una disciplina compleja en una herramienta cercana, útil y reveladora. Con ejemplos prácticos, explicaciones detalladas y un enfoque pedagógico que respeta tanto la teoría como la intuición, los autores guían al lector desde los fundamentos de los modelos econométricos hasta su validación y aplicación en escenarios reales. Ideal para estudiantes de finanzas, administración y economía, este texto no solo enseña a “hacer regresiones”, sino a interpretar lo que los datos nos dicen sobre mercados, decisiones y fenómenos económicos. Una invitación a perderle el miedo a los modelos y a descubrir, en los números, las historias que moldean nuestro entorno.

    El servicio de agua potable para uso residencial en Colombia
    (U.D.C.A, 2018) ;
    Rubiano Moreno Jessica
    El agua potable, como recurso limitado y escaso, debe ser estudiado desde diferentes perspectivas. Por una parte, inciden los agentes que prestan el servicio y, por otra, los consumidores. Por tal motivo, es imprescindible analizar el desempeño de quienes se encargan del suministro de agua y cómo se comporta la demanda de dicho recurso, para optimizar su gestión. En el siguiente trabajo, se describe, a grandes rasgos, cuáles son los actores involucrados en la prestación del servicio de agua en Colombia y se analiza el desempeño en la gestión de los últimos años. Además, se propone un modelo econométrico con datos de panel, donde las variables independientes, que explican el consumo, son la tarifa del servicio y el ingreso per cápita. Teniendo en cuenta estudios previos y la teoría económica, se observa que los planteamientos expuestos son consistentes. Asimismo, se percibe una mejora en los indicadores de gestión de agua en los últimos años.

    Decent work and subjective well-being in Mexico
    Purpose This research aims to find which components of Decent Work are associated with Subjective Well-Being. Design/methodology/approach With data from 2021 from the states of Mexico, econometric models are carried out. Findings It is found that disposable income and satisfaction with leisure time have a significant positive relationship with employees' Subjective Well-Being. Likewise, the rate of critical occupancy conditions and informality rate have a significant negative relationship with Subjective Well-Being. The research suggests that influencing the Decent Work conditions of the population in Mexico could favour their Subjective Well-Being. Social implications Share guidelines that enable employers and governments to establish strategies and policies that promote Decent Work to increase the Subjective Well-being of employees. Originality/value This article evaluates different variables that make up the Decent Work construct in their level of influence on Subjective Well-being. These relationships and variables considered have not been identified in previous studies as a whole.

    A Monte Carlo simulation case study on blueberries from Mexico
    (2024)

Abstract
Global blueberry production more than doubled during the last decade. In Mexico, the production of this fruit has grown faster than globally, positioning this country among the top five international blueberry-producing regions. This case study focuses on a prospective investor planning to grow blueberries in Mexico and export most production to the U.S., the largest producer and consumer of fresh blueberries. A high-technology producer growing blueberries under high tunnels in western Mexico is featured in this article. The case study was researched using a combination of field visits to blueberry producers, collaborative work with an industry consultant, and academic research. The article provides industry statistics on blueberries in Mexico and globally over the last decade. In addition, it describes how the authors conceptualized and developed discounted cash flow models to evaluate this potential investment. Despite the importance of blueberries from Mexico, there is a need for financial models to assess the profitability and risk of growing blueberries in that country. Students solving this case are expected to identify risks and opportunities in the industry and conduct Porter’s five forces competitive analysis. In addition, students will mainly evaluate the results of a stochastic capital budgeting model.

    Programa nacional que incentive el ahorro para acceder a la educación superior privada en México
    (2020)
    Rodríguez Magaña, Alejandro
    ;

    ;
    Currently, Mexican families use educational credits to access private higher education because they do not have enough income to pay tuition and additional expenses, or if they do, since there is free public education, they consider it a luxury. The objective of this article is to look for an option that encourages savings and promotes the professionalization of young people without entering debt. For this, secondary information was collected and a regression model was developed in order to establish which variables are significant for Mexican families and thus be able to propose a savings proposal. Households with low economic resources can hardly access the economic warrants from a credit and can hardly save enough to have higher educational degrees, when they have basic necessities to fulfill. For this reason, a national educational savings program is proposed that allows families to plan long-Term capital raising for the professionalization of their children, allocating a fraction of their income since their children are small so that when they go to make their University studies do not require paying interest rates that reduce your purchasing power in the future. © Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales U.D.C.A.
