Item type:Publication, How Financial Literacy Factors Influence Households’ Income and Expenses(Social Sciences Research Society, 2024); ; Financial literacy equips individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage money effectively, thereby fostering financial well-being and supporting societal development through the promotion of financial responsibility. This study investigates the key determinants of financial literacy that influence household income and expenditure. The research employs an empirical analysis, utilising data from a biannual National Income and Expenses Survey. Two models were compared using multivariate estimations to examine the cause-and-effect relationships between income, expenditure, and financial literacy variables. The first model applied the least-squares method, while the second utilised a robust least-squares method, which accommodates outliers and mitigates the impact of assumption violations. Findings reveal that certain factors, including savings, education, medical expense insurance, life insurance, and credit card usage, significantly and positively influence household income and expenses over time. Notably, the acquisition of medical expense insurance, life insurance, and credit card usage emerged as the most impactful factors. Although savings and education were statistically significant, their overall influence on household financial outcomes was comparatively limited. This study contributes by identifying and highlighting the most influential factors affecting household income and expenditure, with implications for policy and practice. It is recommended to enhance financial literacy by improving public understanding and practical engagement with medical expense insurance, life insurance, and credit card usage, thereby promoting more sustainable and prosperous financial outcomes for households. © The authors (2024), International Journal of Economics and Finance Studies ©Social Sciences Research Society. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Most Relevant Factors in the Gender Gap in European Countries(Academic Conferences International Ltd, 2025); ; Gender equality is essential for the sustainable development of all countries. It brings economic growth, improved education and health for the entire population, poverty reduction, and social and political stability as democracy is strengthened and more peaceful communities are generated. However, its study is complex and includes various dimensions. This research aims to analyze the most relevant factors of the gender gap in European countries. The methodological strategy is based on machine learning techniques applied to the Gender Equality Index, which includes the EU27 countries and was developed by EIGE. These machine-learning techniques are methods computers use to learn from data and make predictions without being explicitly programmed. This index has 31 relevant indicators that are grouped into 14 subdimensions, which are, in turn, divided into six dimensions. The relevant dimensions in the study of gender equality are I. work (5 indicators), II. Money (4 indicators), III. Knowledge (3 indicators), IV. Time (4 indicators), V. power (8 indicators), and VI. Health (7 indicators). The results show a women's gap. Three of the most relevant dimensions from this research inhibit gender equity: I. Power in its three economic, political, and social dimensions; II. Knowledge in its two dimensions of attainment, participation, and segregation, and III. Time in its dimension of social activities. Women's most significant factors for the gender gap are power, knowledge, and time. ©The authors ©International Conference on Gender Research. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Social mobility through technological assets: a regional microsimulation model(Social Sciences Research Society, 2025); Access to technology is a significant factor in facilitating upward social mobility by reducing disparities in access to information and fostering educational and employment opportunities. This study develops a microsimulation model for a region in Mexico to estimate the probabilities of households achieving social mobility through a two-year renewable microcredit scheme for acquiring a computer with internet access over a 14-year period. The data utilised include the National Income and Expenses Survey and a regional social mobility survey. The methodology incorporates principal component analysis to construct an Asset Index, ordered logistic regression for asset selection, a Markov Chain for transition probability estimation, and Monte Carlo simulation. The findings reveal that 13.75% of households could progress to a higher wealth quintile while sustaining their ability to repay the microcredit. The study advocates for targeting public programmes aimed at social mobility towards specific sectors rather than implementing universal initiatives. Additionally, it recommends enhancing credit conditions through public-private partnerships to mitigate inequality. ©The authors © (2024), (Social Sciences Research Society). Item type:Publication, The effectiveness of curriculum standardization in data analysis and tools proficiency for undergraduate education: a case study(Frontiers Media SA, 2025); ; Introduction: The rapid evolution of technology necessitates the development of advanced computing and data analysis skills in undergraduate education. Standardizing curricula is a strategy to ensure consistent learning outcomes and align educational objectives with industry requirements. This study investigates the impact of a standardized curriculum on students' academic performance and professional certification outcomes. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used to analyze 1,597 students enrolled in a data analysis course before and after implementing a standardized curriculum at a private university in Mexico City. The study assessed course grades and certification exam scores to evaluate the effectiveness of standardization. Parametric and non-parametric tests were applied to ensure robust analysis. Results: Implementing the standardized curriculum resulted in a slight decrease in average course grades but significantly improved certification exam scores, exceeding the threshold for certification. The findings highlight enhanced proficiency in data analysis tools and consistency in achieving educational objectives across groups. Discussion: The results suggest that curriculum standardization effectively addresses teaching methodologies and assessment criteria discrepancies. While increased curriculum difficulty temporarily impacted grades, the improved certification outcomes demonstrate the value of standardization in preparing students for industry demands. These insights provide a foundation for future curriculum development to align academic instruction with the evolving requirements of a technology-driven workforce. ©The authors ©Frontiers Media. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Sustainability and Quality of Life in Marginalized Areas: An Impact Evaluation of a Community Center in Santa Fe, Mexico(MDPI, 2024); The aim of this paper is to present the results of an impact evaluation of a community center in health, capacity building, and digital access, which form an approximation of quality of life, in the population of Santa Fe town in Mexico City, from 2022 to 2024. The methodology is quantitative, using an impact index and the differences in differences (DD) technique. The data were obtained from primary sources with surveys undertaken via questionnaires. The center is operated by a private university and funded by private firms. The results show a positive impact of 0.287127 out of 1 on the weighted impact index, which allows us to consider this program successful in improving the quality of life of the target population. Through impact evaluation, the effectiveness of interventions and opportunities for improvement are identified, fostering collaboration among local actors, including community members, state-run public programs, and community centers. This collaborative effort improves the quality of life, creating a sustainable community wherein each actor addresses specific needs. Impact evaluation plays a crucial role in measuring sustainability because it is a continuous improvement process that, when combined with other actions, enhances the community’s overall well-being. ©2024 MDPI, The authors.16 47 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access to Microfinance for Social Mobility in Mexico(Springer Nature, 2023)A reduction on both income and expenses among Mexican families after the confinement set during the pandemic worsened economic inequality and set higher obstacles for upward social mobility. A conceptual model is presented for a novel scheme of microcredits designed to facilitate families the acquisition of a group of durable household assets that improve the living conditions and allow the next generations to achieve a better socioeconomic status. When income data is not reliable or available, asset accumulation can be used as an estimation of household wealth and asset indexes are commonly used in the evaluation of intergenerational social mobility. Microcredits, on the other hand, are small-scale loans targeting to low-income groups widely used as part of poverty alleviation strategies. Studies have shown a positive relation between microcredits and social mobility and this model’s contribution is the link of these concepts with household assets that were not combined before. ©The author ©Springer Nature.12 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An Asset Index Proposal for Households in Mexico Applying the Mixed Principal Components Analysis Methodology(2021); The development of assets indices has grown as an alternative to measure wealth from different generations in the evaluation of social mobility. A proposal of the development of an asset index is presented using the GSVD-based mixed principal components analysis (PCAMix package in R). The contribution rests in the combination of both numerical and categorical data and the integration of the simultaneous effect of these variables in the index. It was used in profiling the Mexican households according to the information from the 2018 National Household Income and Expenditure and the determination of the Gini coefficient to evaluate the inequality of distribution at the state level. Results show a high level of disparity in the distribution of assets with only 0.01% of the households possessing 40% or more of the assets included in the index, being the southern region where greatest challenges for ascending social mobility.© Springer NatureScopus© Citations 1 49 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Critical Factors in the Participation of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics -STEM- Disciplines in Mexico(Springer, 2024-01-01); ;González, Fernando José Menéndez; Currently, women participate in STEM areas, still with a very marked gender gap. Taking this as a reference, in this work, an investigation has been carried out based on questionnaires applied to students of STEM careers. The information obtained was analyzed using multi-criteria decision methods. In particular, the Order of Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method was applied to determine the most favorable conditions for women to study a STEM career. Through this analysis, this research has found that women's choice of a STEM career is strongly influenced firstly by the father's profession, secondly by the mother's profession, and also has a positive impact on the discrimination to which the person has been subjected, self-motivation. And self-esteem. These results indicate that it is necessary to influence the early educational stages to provide support from the family and school environment to women so that they develop their skills around STEM careers. In future work, the data obtained could be analyzed in greater depth, considering that the richness of the open responses may be lost by coding the respondents’ opinions as categorical variables. ©Springer.28 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
