Abstract
Ecotourism is a global socio-economical phenomenon that raises new alternatives to tourist activities. It is not only an economical interest but also the respect towards the ecosystems, the exaltation of cultural and historical wealth of the different regions, the possibility of integrating the communities to the benefits and the operation of the touristy development programs. All these aspects imply a strong commitment of the official organizations in charge of promoting this activity To achieve a sustainable development means to combine the satisfaction of social needs with the preservation of the present and future bio-physical and social balance. In Mexico this tourism represents a new option of growth that has great advantages and challenges. Ecotourism is an activity that perfectly combines both social and ecological development.
