Item type:Publication, Reflexiones desde la práctica docente: experiencias de aprendizaje para la educación en ingeniería industrial en la pospandemia(Universidad del Pacífico, 2022); ;Da Silva Ovando, Agatha Clarice ;Mejía-Argueta, ChristopherChong, MarioOne of the main challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic brought was the continuity of education. In this context, this work focuses on analyzing the practice of higher education in the discipline of Engineering and its related academic programs with a future perspective, motivated by the limitations and challenges imposed by the pandemic. To ensure high-quality education, it was relevant to give continuity to the education of students, maintaining active, experiential, student-centered learning experiences that are relevant to developing their skills, despite their remote interaction and frequent technological deficiencies. and educational resources. Thus, this work proposes a conceptual scheme to guide the design and reflection of learning experiences with a post-pandemic perspective. This scheme is composed of six dimensions of innovation and educational leadership for higher education: environment, impact and linkage, educational models and value chain, educational strategies, teaching formats, infrastructure and learning resources, accreditations and learning evaluation. Additionally, this document presents initiatives that exemplify this effort within the MIT Supply Chain And Logistics Excellence network for Latin America and the Caribbean (MIT SCALE LAC), led by the Center for Transportation and Logistics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These initiatives refer to learning experiences in universities in Bolivia, Mexico, and Peru that have sought to maintain active learning in the context of the pandemic, with a link to the contemporary challenges of organizations, communities, and the society in general in which they live. students immersed. ©The authors, Revista Apuntes.Scopus© Citations 5 24 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Experiential Learning Labs for the Post-COVID-19 Pandemic Era(MDPI, 2024); ;Da Silva Ovando, Agatha ClaricePalma-Mendoza, Jaime AlbertoThe post-pandemic era shaped by COVID-19 has compelled universities to reimagine their learning experiences, adapting to new educational requirements and heightened expectations. However, this transformation brings forth novel pedagogical requirements and learning limitations. In today’s educational landscape, learners seek active and relevant learning experiences that seamlessly integrate interactivity, crisis awareness, and global challenges tied to a resilience and sustainability perspective. To address this imperative, our work introduces an experiential learning lab to articulate Kolb’s experiential learning cycle and authentic assessment principles. By incorporating real-world events as study scenarios, higher-order skill challenges, and self-regulated learning in alignment with reflective and practical activities, we aim to enhance students’ engagement and learning relevance. To illustrate practical implementation, we propose a case study methodology regarding an experiential learning lab for operations management education. Specifically, we delve into a case study centred around the Social Lab for Sustainable Logistics, involving a circular economy challenge as a learning experience during the post-COVID-19 pandemic. Preliminary results indicate that the experiential learning lab helped to create the learning experience in alignment with intended learning outcomes. However, further instances of such learning experiences are necessary to explore the contribution and applicability of the lab across diverse settings and disciplines.8 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Histopathological impact of SARS-CoV-2 on the liver: Cellular damage and long-term complications(Baishideng Publishing Group, 2024) ;Rodríguez-Espada, Alfonso ;Salgado-de la Mora, Moisés ;Rodríguez-Paniagua, Briana Mariette ;Limón-de la Rosa, NathalyMartínez-Gutiérrez, Mónica ItzelCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the highly pathogenic severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), primarily impacts the respiratory tract and can lead to severe outcomes such as acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ failure, and death. Despite extensive studies on the pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2, its impact on the hepatobiliary system remains unclear. While liver injury is commonly indicated by reduced albumin and elevated bilirubin and transaminase levels, the exact source of this damage is not fully understood. Proposed mechanisms for injury include direct cytotoxicity, collateral damage from inflammation, drug-induced liver injury, and ischemia/hypoxia. However, evidence often relies on blood tests with liver enzyme abnormalities. In this comprehensive review, we focused solely on the different histopathological manifestations of liver injury in COVID-19 patients, drawing from liver biopsies, complete autopsies, and in vitro liver analyses. We present evidence of the direct impact of SARS-CoV-2 on the liver, substantiated by in vitro observations of viral entry mechanisms and the actual presence of viral particles in liver samples resulting in a variety of cellular changes, including mitochondrial swelling, endoplasmic reticulum dilatation, and hepatocyte apoptosis. Additionally, we describe the diverse liver pathology observed during COVID-19 infection, encompassing necrosis, steatosis, cholestasis, and lobular inflammation. We also discuss the emergence of long-term complications, notably COVID-19-related secondary sclerosing cholangitis. Recognizing the histopathological liver changes occurring during COVID-19 infection is pivotal for improving patient recovery and guiding decision-making. ©Scopus© Citations 2 26 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Catastrophic Health Spending by COVID-19 in the Mexican Insurance Sector(Springer, 2024-01-01) ;Domínguez-Gutiérrez, UlisesThe COVID-19 pandemic that the world has been suffering for 3 years has generated major impacts worldwide, both in public health systems and in the private insurance industry. The high costs of care derived from cases with complications have likewise generated a great impact on the private insurance industry. In the case of Mexico, the mortality rates observed are among the first places, in addition to generating a great impact on private insurance. This work deals with the measurement of the impact of catastrophic expenses derived from COVID-19 in an insurance company; using a set of machine learning models, the key variables in the estimation of patients with potential catastrophic expenses were determined. The results show that the estimated classification model has a positive performance in addition to allowing the identification of the main risk factors of the insured as well as their potentially catastrophic impact on insurance companies.© 2024 Springer Nature26 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Machine Learning for Digital Shadow Design in Health Insurance Sector(Springer Nature, 2024); ;Marmolejo Saucedo, José Antonio ;Rodríguez-Aguilar, MiriamMarmolejo-Saucedo, LilianaThe digital transformation process in organizations has accelerated significantly in recent years; the COVID-19 pandemic was a catalyst that highlighted the need for digitalization in all sectors. In the case of the health sector, this process is complex due to the processes inherent in health care as well as the integration of multiple sectors that allow the provision of health services. A first approach towards the construction of a Digital Twin in health organizations is a Digital Shadow that allows an orderly transition towards digital operation in real time. This paper presents a first approach to the design of a Digital Shadow for the health insurance sector and specifically for the care of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 through the implementation of an analytical intelligence system based on machine learning models to forecast and monitor to patients who represent catastrophic cases for the insurer. © 2024 Springer NatureScopus© Citations 1 23 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Economic Impacts and Financial Strategies of Turkish Logistics Companies During the COVID-19 Crisis(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2024) ;Afshar Jahanshahi, Asghar ;Sonmez Cakir, Fatma ;Kalaycioglu, OzanAdiguzel, ZaferLogistics companies played a vital role in the supply and distribution of products in a timely and effective manner during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research sought to know how financial authorities in these companies managed the financial process and how they approached resolving issues due to the economic and financial problems experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using data from 30 experts from the accounting-finance departments of logistics companies, we found that the COVID-19 pandemic caused a decrease in revenues of the logistics companies in Turkey and increased demands for loan payments before their maturity date. According to this study, the most important factors affecting logistics companies during this health crisis were unpredictable changes in exchange rates, currency depreciation (Turkish lira), and increased rental fees. Through this research, we learned how the economic and financial problems experienced by logistics companies were managed by financial experts during the COVID-19 pandemic. ©IEEEScopus© Citations 2 32 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Perceptions of COVID-19 patients in the use of bioethical principles and the physician-patient relationship: a qualitative approach(BioMed Central Ltd, 2024); ;Gómez-Guerrero, Irma Eloisa ;Aguiñaga-Chiñas, Nuria ;López Cervantes, MarianaJaramillo Flores, Ignacio DavidThe COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the approach to the health-disease system, raising the question about the principles of bioethics present in physician–patient relations. The principles while widely accepted may not be sufficient for a comprehensive ethical analysis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the perception of these principles and the physician–patient relationship during a hospital stay through a qualitative approach. Method: Sixteen semi-structured interviews took place to know the patients’ perception during their 2020 hospitalization for COVID-19. The data was analyzed through the constant comparison method, creating categories and comparing them. In the end, seven categories were established and were grouped in three: bioethical principles (dignity, charity, vulnerability, autonomy), doctor-patient relationship (participant commitment, informed consent, health staff-patient relationship) and the experience of the disease (illness, the role of the family). Results: The research found that most patients described a positive experience, with the feeling of having been well cared for with no sense of discrimination or injustice done. The majority also reported that their autonomy was respected in the treatment decisions. The evaluation of these attitudes is an area of opportunity, especially when the patients' vulnerability is at risk. Conclusions: The ethics of virtue offers a better reflection of how human beings manifest themselves by emphasizing the development of virtuous character and behaviors that allow them to realize their values in life. Item type:Publication, The Emotional Experience of Mexican Women with SARS-CoV-2 during Pregnancy―A Qualitative Study(MDPI, 2023) ;Gómez-López, María Eugenia; ;González-Carpinteiro, Aline ;Mendizábal-Espinosa, RosaBobadilla, LilianaPregnant women have been considered a high-risk group for SARS-CoV-2 infection; the impact of the disease on the health of a mother and her child is still being studied. The emotional impact of the pandemic on pregnant women has been extensively studied. Emotional distress is proposed as a perspective to explain the emotional manifestations in women during this stage as something common rather than pathological. The objective of this study was to explore the emotional experience of women who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 towards the end of their pregnancy, during the first and second waves of COVID-19 in Mexico. A qualitative study was carried out: 18 pregnant women with COVID-19 were interviewed. A thematic analysis of the data was performed, resulting in 3 main themes and 14 subthemes. The COVID-19-infected mothers-to-be experienced mild to moderate emotional distress. It was more intense for those with comorbidities. This distress was aggravated during obstetrical complications and comorbidities, as well as during COVID-19 and postpartum. The emotional distress was appeased by both the perception of medical care and social support. The emotional distress of pregnant women with COVID-19 requires emotional support to reduce its impact.33 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Diagnostic accuracy of the BioFire® FilmArray® pneumonia panel in COVID-19 patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia(2023) ;Cojuc-Konigsberg, Gabriel ;Moscona-Nissan, Alberto ;Guijosa, Alberto ;Mireles Dávalos, Christian D.Jiménez Martínez, María E.Background: Ventilator-Associated pneumonia (VAP) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients in lower-and-middle-income settings, where timely access to emergency care and accurate diagnostic testing is not widely available.
