    The Role of Development and Commercial Banking in Promoting Economic Growth in Mexico: A Sectoral Analysis
This study examines the impact of credit extended by both commercial and development banks on exports, GDP, and FDI across different sectors in Mexico. The research lies within the broader context of financial sector development and its role in promoting regional development and economic growth. We use panel data techniques to compare traditional models that include only commercial bank credit with models incorporating development bank credit. Our results emphasize the different and complementary roles of commercial and development banks. The latter is crucial in addressing market failures and supporting long-term, socially and economically beneficial projects. The study concludes that development bank credit should be integrated into economic studies to better understand its contribution to sustainable growth. It suggests that policymakers should coordinate the roles of both banking sectors to foster a balanced and resilient economy.

    Introduction Digital platforms are increasingly used in higher education to deliver content, assess learning, and measure complex cognitive processes such as executive functions. Although the DeLone and McLean information systems success framework has been widely applied to e-learning platforms, empirical evidence on user-centered evaluation of digital cognitive assessment tools in higher education remains limited. Methods The study evaluated Bloom 2.0, a web-based platform that administers six executive function tasks: Tower of Hanoi (3-disc and 4-disc), Raven’s Progressive Matrices, Stroop, Token Test, and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test. Sixty-four undergraduate students from Universidad Panamericana (Mexico City) completed the full six-task battery in March 2026. Of these, 55 also responded to a 15-item Spanish adaptation of Doll and Torkzadeh’s End-User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) survey and two open-ended prompts. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Cronbach’s α , and inductive thematic coding of open-ended responses. Results Overall satisfaction was high ( M = 4.28 , S D = 0.91 on a 1–5 scale), with 81.0% of responses rated 4 or 5. Internal consistency was high (Cronbach’s α = 0.936 for the full scale; α = 0.749 – 0.874 across dimensions). Accuracy was the highest-rated EUCS dimension ( M = 4.39 ), whereas Content received the lowest mean rating ( M = 4.20 ). Open-ended responses yielded six themes, with instruction clarity the most frequent (58%). The remaining themes were overall positive comments, interface and visual design, cognitive fatigue during the Raven task, the closing and feedback experience, and anxiety related to visible timers or error counters. Discussion Bloom 2.0 was usable in this undergraduate sample and produced internally consistent satisfaction responses. The findings address users’ perceptions of system quality and satisfaction and do not constitute psychometric validation of the underlying cognitive tasks. No criterion or convergent validity was evaluated against a clinician-administered reference battery in this study. The main issues were related to task instructions, interpretation of feedback, and usability elements associated with task guidance. The next version should revise task instructions, improve the closing feedback screen, and recalibrate task cutoffs before the platform is compared with a clinician-administered reference battery.

    Narrative and Family Business Firms: A Discourse Framework Toward Continuity and Competitiveness
    Family business firms (FBFs) constantly struggle with the challenge of successfully reaching and surviving beyond the third generation. Narrative or storytelling is frequently used in business to transmit knowledge, achieve goals, create and maintain a connection with stakeholders, and achieve sustained growth. Most FBFs consciously or unconsciously use narrative and possess their own discourse, which is unique to every family and family business and which may aid FBFs in achieving continuity. FBFs must have an adequate atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation so that group members can transform acquired tacit knowledge through storytelling into explicit action. FBFs should be prepared to help collaborators and other stakeholders build competencies since tacit knowledge transfer, through narrative, can aid in the solving of problems, enhance innovativeness, and improve strategic decision-making. Therefore, narrative may well aid FBFs in fulfilling their ultimate goal of continuity. The purpose of this chapter is to evaluate the potential influence of narrative on FBFs’ continuity and prevention of their precipitous expiration. This chapter contributes to previous literature that sheds light on the narrative implications of FBFs, and depicts FBFs’ narratives and the dynamics of their business objectives, as well as touches on the heterogeneous nature of each family business’ storyline. There are various advantages to FBFs’ storytelling; perhaps the most noteworthy is the achievement of sustained business growth and continuity. ©The authors © 2020 Emerald Publishing Limited.

    Leveraging Strategic Planning to Navigate Volatile Environments
    (Palgrave Macmillan, Cham, 2023) ;
    Periods of rapid change underscore the importance of Strategic Planning as a managerial lever for decision-making in the face of environmental volatility. This study examines the effect of two strategies implemented by a university as part of the strategic plan devised to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Student assessments of brand promise delivery and an updated corporate visual identity (CVI) are measured through an online survey (n = 288). Brand promise delivery has a substantive effect on the university’s reputation and brand advocacy, in both cases mediated by brand image and student satisfaction. The new CVI positively moderates the relationship between brand promise delivery and brand image. By focusing on the impact of two marketing strategies, the study illustrates the cyclical nature of the Strategic Planning process, and how successive cycles of planning can benefit from the knowledge gained through empirical research. Managerial applications are suggested. ©The authors ©Springer.

    “I’m OK, You’re OK” Philosophy: Promoting a Culture of Respect, Equity, Justice, and Peace Through Assertiveness—An Introduction
    (Springer Nature Switzerland, 2024)
    Castaños-Cervantes Susana
    ;
    Assertiveness is a human right essential for belonging and cultivating a culture of peace, equity, justice, and respect. Its importance lies in fostering culturally appropriate interactions and in the ability to express clearly, confidently, and respectfully personal needs, opinions, desires, and emotions while considering and respecting the rights and perspectives of others. It is a valuable tool since it contributes to improving, among other aspects, interpersonal relationships, quality of care, work efficiency and productivity, teamwork, psychosocial well-being, and health outcomes. This chapter qualitatively analyses assertiveness as a human right and as the fundamental factor for intercultural competencies, which, in turn, help establish diverse and inclusive societies. As a result, peace, justice, and equity are settled amongst communities, and a culture of belonging, enrichment, and thriving is cultivated. It examines how education paves the way for communicating, behaving assertively, and exercising the human right to be assertive. Thus, education provides the foundation for learning to live together through assertiveness. Finally, this chapter synthesises and analyses the book to give a general overview of its content. This book will pave the way for future research on assertive rights. It will encourage studies of assertiveness as a human right and as a way of promoting a culture of respect, justice, and peace within diverse, inclusive, and culturally competent societies. ©The authors ©Springer.
