    Actores sociales en la Cumbre del Clima de París : el mensaje de pueblos indígenas, grupos religiosos, mujeres y jóvenes
    (2018)
    Azpíroz, María-Luisa
    This research analyzes the discourse of social actors at COP21: indigenous people, religious organizations, women, and youth. Their message addressed issues omitted by politicians, such as human rights, threats to food security, or the temperature target of 1.5°C. The analysis makes use of press conferences and applies qualitative methodology and framing theory to answer: What problems should be addressed? What solutions do proposals offer? How do they assess the situation? Do they have some points of agreement? The results reveal a shared emphasis on solutions by local actors and civil society, and a convergence between the message of indigenous groups and women. Future researches could continue analyzing this discourse and compare it with the political one. ©2018 Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

    Adaptación, osadía e innovación, coordenadas del ecosistema educativo en la pandemia
    (Universidad Panamericana, Escuela de Comunicación, 2021-06-01)
    López Aguirre, José Luis
    ;
    Universidad Panamericana. Campus Ciudad de México. Escuela de Comunicación
    El presente cuarto número de nuestra Revista Panamericana de Comunicación sirva para conmemorar, en su acepción de homenaje más que de celebración, a los docentes y estudiantes que continúan enfrentando con resiliencia y creatividad los retos y exigencias que plantea la pandemia por la COVID-19. Asimismo, dedicamos este monográfico a los colegas que han partido, pero que sus enseñanzas perduran. En este desafiante e incierto escenario que ha caracterizado el comienzo del segundo decenio del siglo XXI, el sector educativo ha tenido que reinventarse, como gratamente lo evidencian los diecisiete artículos provenientes de quince universidades hispanoamericanas que conforman la edición titulada Buenas prácticas docentes y de investigación en las carreras de Comunicación durante el confinamiento sanitario.

    An Irishman in Mexico: Bernard Shaw in the Mexican Press (1900–1960)
    (2022)
    Fernandez, Inigo
    The study and reception of the work and ideas of Bernard Shaw in the Mexican press during the first half of the twentieth century is a theme that has not been broached, and thus could well be seen as a fertile field for the study of the history of the Mexican press and literature. What is certain is that, in the specific case of Mexico, this reception process was marked by conjunctures and structural changes that represented the end of one regime—the Porfiriato—and the rise and consolidation of another—the revolutionary. On the one hand, during the former, the sense of Francization reigned in the breast of a small but powerful urban elite. On the other hand, the governors who emerged from the Revolution were, initially, inclined to foment a nationalism in which the resurgence of the arts in the country was based on the revival of the pre-Hispanic world. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

    Applying the Contemplative Technopedagogy Framework: Insights for Teaching Ethics Using TV Series
    (2021)
    Shanks, Justin D.
    ;
    Scalzo, Germán
    ;
    Nicolás Gavilán, María Teresa
    Digital media and technology are nearly ubiquitious in contemporary higher education, As such, researchers and educators are keen to identify best practices and understand impacts. Digital media and technology present opportunities to cultivate interactive, creative teaching-learning communities. However, inclusion of digital media and technology in a course does not necessarily cultivate creative engagement or deep reflection among students. This manuscript studies how a contemplative approach to teaching with digital media, specifically TV series, can lead to more effective and engaging in the process of teaching professional ethics. This research explores how the Contemplative Technopedagogy Framework can enrich the use of TV series for teaching professional ethics and positively influence the effective integration of ethical behavior into university students’ future professional lives. © 2021, NeilsonJournals Publishing. Are media covering while women are campaigning? A study of Mexican municipal elections
    (2022)
    Vidal Correa, Fernanda
    Studies on media coverage have found that female nominees receive unequal treatment regarding their visibility and portrayal of their agendas. To assess how media cover women, municipal elections in Mexico are analysed. By focusing on municipal elections, this research advocate for the study of local phenomena and their discourses. The study questions whether women have received equal media exposure compared to men. The research analyses how women are portrayed and explores how print news media present stories about women and the narratives included in their stories. Findings suggest that female and male candidates are equally visible, but men are singled out more often as likely winners. News reports focus mostly on ‘male’ issues, but coverage does not focus disproportionally on female candidates’ personality traits. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

    Asesinos por naturaleza: una lectura primigenia de la violencia en el cine
    (2013)
    Zamorano-Rojas, Alma Delia
    The article confronts the problem of violence departing from the answers given by contemporary society: Utilizing Oliver Stone’s film, paradigmatic in the treatment of the aggression and the violence. The author analyses the subject, tests the answers to topics ranging from the mediatic treatment and the trivialitation to the point of becoming critic to the power. The research exhibits a recount of causes that justifies the treatment of violence as a filmic criticism of the postmodern perception of the reality: Before the spirit, science and truth crisis. ©Andamios. Book review : Journalism, Satire, and Censorship in Mexico by Paul Gillingham, Michael Lettieri, and Benjamin T. Smith (eds.)
    (2020)
    López-Aguirre, José-Luis
    Faced with the complicated, challenging, and violent reality which has accompanied Mexican journalism since its beginnings, how can we understand its persistent, bold, but also tragic and controversial development? Part of the answer to such a disturbing question may be discovered, surprisingly, on the cover of the book Journalism, Satire, and Censorship in Mexico, edited by Paul Gillingham, associate professor of History at Northwestern University; Michael Lettieri, Fellow at the Center for U.S.–Mexican Studies at the University of California, San Diego; and Benjamin Smith, reader of Latin American history at the University of Warwick ©2020 José Luis López Aguirre, SAGE Publications Inc.

    La campaña electoral por la gubernatura del Estado de México realizada a mediados del 2023 se sitúa entre las más relevantes de la política mexicana contemporánea: se trata de la entidad con el mayor número de votantes registrados en el país, por primera vez en la historia contendieron dos mujeres y además el Partido Revolucionario Institucional se jugaba casi un siglo de gobernar dicho estado. Sin embargo, fue otro asunto el que resultó ser relevante para esta investigación: candidatos y candidatas en México están incrementando la propaganda electoral en las redes sociodigitales para promover su imagen y persuadir especialmente a las jóvenes audiencias. Por ello, se decidió analizar, mediante una metodología híbrida, un corpus selectivo de anuncios electorales publicados en Facebook por la candidata y actual gobernadora Delfina Gómez, con el propósito de distinguir sus principales características e identificar qué tipo de anuncios tuvieron mayor importancia en Facebook. Asimismo, esta investigación permitió evaluar los atributos y limitaciones de la Biblioteca de Anuncios de Meta.

    Children’s media environment : a study in Mexico City
    (2017)
    Nicolás Gavilán, María Teresa
    Why is it important to study children’s media environment? Because it represents a challenge to formal education, and most teachers seem to ignore the extent of their students´ immersion in media technologies. Innovative educators might use mobile technology in K-12 or social media for academic tasks, but in spite of these advances, promises about optimizing learning and thinking skills, seem somewhat distant, simply because technological innovations do not imply didactic innovations, nor encourage curiosity, decision-making, connections, and meaning. One piece missing is definitely the link between schools’ planned and formal education and children’s informal learning from their media environment where technology is an integral part of their lives. The media environment is defined here, as the complex system of communication messages that surrounds people and that are transmitted through traditional media such as closed television and radio, and new media formats that can be accessed through the Internet via television, computer, tablet or mobile phones. Certainly, today’s media environment is huge, diverse, fragmented and with all kinds of players competing for users attention, offering content with global availability at any time and everywhere. How do children relate to it? The answer to this research question was mainly guided by the Uses and Gratifications tradition (Katz, Blumer and Gurevitch, 1976) that conceives the child as a psychologically active person who seeks certain content, to cover some need. Scholars have noted that the Uses and Gratifications approach is a good framework to examine current communication behaviors in terms of a) Uses (what media, what channels, what content and in what extent) and motives (gratifications sought) to satisfy what needs. Results reported in this article pertain to the first stage of a bigger research project that began in 2016. For the present report a qualitative approach was used as a research strategy to ask non-obtrusively to a sample of 220 girls and boys from 3rd through 7th grade, registered at private and public schools located in three socioeconomic areas (A/B, C and D), to write an essay about the media they use and what they like or dislike about it. The written narratives were content analyzed and make up the core results of this study where a brief summary of findings is provided below. Media technologies are central children’s lives, they write about them with great enthusiasm and are knowledgeable about all sorts of content, some of it, not suitable for all ages. They like to be entertained, connected and report to learn from cartoons, drama, comedy series, sports, telenovelas, movies, reality shows, etc. Children in this sample, across all ages and socio-economic status, have access to television, computers, tablets, and mobiles, spending at least 4 hours daily using them. They are media multitaskers, juggling with TV or streaming content, texts, and blogs while doing homework or eat their meals. They draw a clear line between Internet uses for homework (serious stuff to complete information) from all the other fun content they seek different motives. The most surprising finding emerged through children’s narratives: Their teachers are banishing or limiting the use of ICT in the classroom, perhaps in an attempt to balance the avalanche of messages in children’s media environment. Implications of this disassociation are further discussed in the article. ©2017 IATED Academy

    Claroscuros de un estadunidense en México: el caso de Paul Hudson (1896-1921)
    (2018)
    Fernandez, Inigo
    This article focuses on Paul Hudson, a key figure in the North American colony in Porfirian Mexico that has barely been studied in our country. Through the analysis of hemerographic testimonies of the time, we attempt to show that Hudson managed to consolidate an image of an upstanding citizen in the country as a result of the services he rendered to Porfirio Díaz's regime through the newspaper The Mexican Herald, his participation in businesses organized by Mexican and North American capitals and his collaboration in philanthropic projects. We will also explain that his loyalty to the Porfirian regime, rejection of the Mexican Revolution and support for the US invasion of the country led to his decline as a public figure and his subsequent departure from the country. © 2018 Instituto de Investigaciones Dr. José María Luis Mora. When students only attend a class inside a classroom to listen to a professor, they do not have enough opportunities to develop all the hard and soft skills needed for excellent performance on their personal and professional lives (Quieng, et al. 2015). They may have a significant amount of information. However, they are are not able to transfer their main learnings to real-life situations, solve different kinds of problems, work collaboratively, make appropriate decisions, and many other essential outcomes needed for nowadays society (Brown et al. 2017).

    El hombre a lo largo de su vida cambia, nunca es igual, cada día es una nueva oportunidad de crecer y disfrutar, y esto se da porque la realidad nos obliga, pues el motor de la vida es el cambio. En ocasiones no nos proponemos ese cambio y es probable que no sea para mejorar, pero lo necesitamos dar para ver que rumbo va tomando nuestra vida. Este cambio es un proceso que si lo queremos entender lo tenemos que iniciar como la evaluación de las circunstancias que se nos presentan en nuestras vidas, necesitamos también tener disposición para aceptarlo y no olvidamos de dejar ir el pasado. Aunque yo se que es muy difícil dejar atrás las cosas, y más aún dejar al paso, pues como seres humanos nos aterra cambiar, pues no sabemos si nos ira bien o mal, pero es el primer paso que debemos dar para cambiar. Ahora bien para poder dar esos cambios es importante antes que nada quererlos hacer, pues si no, no tiene caso nada, una vez que tienes la intención de hacer acciones, debes identificarlas para damos cuenta que lo que realmente valoramos y buscamos y así poder dirigir cambios positivos en nuestras vidas. La intención es individual lo que realmente queremos cada uno, pues no le puedes decir a otros lo que deben hacer, solo puedes aconsejar pero jamás imponer algo que no quieran hacer los demás.

    Conceptual problems with disembodied cognition in learning environment(s) and the alternative of embodied creativity
    (Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, 2024)
    Briedis, Mindaugas
    ;
    Navarro Arroyo, Mariano
    The article is motivated by today’s practical realities and theoretical transformations that have affected education on a major scale. The shift from in-person to online classrooms at the beginning of the pandemic brought forward a series of issues related to embodied conditioning for creative strategies in the learning process. After presenting the shortcomings of the disembodied approach to education, we emphasize the role of the embodied (somatic, motoric, affective) aspects of education and discuss the embodied skills of creativity in a variety of learning environments. While so called embodied creativity became a fast-developing field due to mostly quantitative experiments in teaching-learning environments, it still lacks some conceptual clarification, especially in relation to its genesis in the paradigm of embodied cognition. Hence the main goal of this conceptual article is to extend, through the method of theory adaptation, the existing body of research on embodied cognition in academic environments to show how the embodied teaching and learning paradigm presents embodied creativity methods as an alternative to the disembodied approach to education and how technological environments provide an opportunity for such purposes. ©Los autores ©Creativity Studies ©Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.

    Universidad Panamericana. Campus Ciudad de México. Escuela de Comunicación
    La transición a la educación en línea en tiempos del coronavirus ha implicado no sólo el desarrollo de nuevas habilidades y actitudes sino la explosión de la creatividad de infinidad de profesores. De pronto, los maestros nos convertimos en aprendices de magos, y tuvimos que adaptarnos e innovar. Particularmente tuvimos que aprender a descubrir nuevas posibilidades que nos permitiesen cocrear con nuestros estudiantes un rico ecosistema de experiencias de enseñanza-aprendizaje durante la covidianidad. En consecuencia, el objetivo del presente artículo es compartir la experiencia de aprendizaje de la gestión del modelo educativo en línea que hemos bautizado como Conectados +. Por supuesto, se exponen, con el permiso de mis estudiantes, algunas estrategias, dinámicas y actividades de interacción, cocreación y evaluación como la aplicación de un examen en díadas, en la nube y en red, sustentado en la teoría del conectivismo; así como la apropiación y articulación de un conjunto de plataformas (Zoom, Google Drive, Twitter y YouTube) y recursos tecnológicos (Jamboard, Kahoot!, Poll Everywhere y Pinpoint) que conforman el ecosistema de experiencias de enseñanza-aprendizaje de Conectados +.

    ;
    Nicolás Gavilán, María Teresa
    The School of Pedagogy of Universidad Panamericana Campus Aguascalientes has been studying the pertinence and quality of their programs and especially, the Pedagogical model that allows or limits students to learn and develop what they should, to achieve their personal and professional goals (Nicholls, A. 2018). Since 2018 there has been an investigation with students, graduate students, professors, and employers to know if they think the school and its academic programs are helping on the integral development of its students. We found the vital necessity of actualizing our Pedagogy career program: the subjects for each professional area and semester, contents, disciplinary learning outcomes, etc.; but also, the Pedagogical model of the School to achieve the Learning outcomes of the Pedagogy career, the Learning outcomes of each of the subjects, all the needed elements for a complete and pertinent graduation profile for all of the students, the didactic situations and methods, and of course, a new way to assess students performance (Mintz, K., & Tal, T. 2018).

    De la gesta heroica a los “chispazos” de humor. Representaciones de Hernán Cortés en la prensa de la Ciudad de México (1900-1910)
    (2023)
    Fernandez, Inigo
    As the conqueror of Mexico, Hernán Cortés has been a controversial figure in Mexican history and the press. We will present an overview of what the Mexico City newspapers pub-lished about him between 1900 and 1910 to answer the following questions: what was written about Cortés? linked? And what were the publications trying to do with it? Through the Framing theory, we will review, segment and study a documentary corpus of newspaper articles to show a process of distension around his figure as a journalistic subject in which, without denying the dis-cussions of the past, although qualifying them, he began to be linked more to anecdotal and some-what trivial issues as a result of a change in the framing by the newspapers that was linked to the Mexican government agenda. © 2023 Historia Contemporánea (UPV/EHU).

    Diplomacia pública : el caso de la "Guerra Contra el Terror"
    (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, 2012)
    Azpíroz, María-Luisa
    La diplomacia pública es una actividad de comunicación política internacional en cuya práctica destaca Estados Unidos por ser el país donde primero se desarrolla e institucionaliza. Después del decaimiento posterior a la Guerra Fría, la diplomacia pública de este país experimentó una renovada importancia tras los atentados del 11-S. La "guerra contra el terror" promovida por la Administración Bush se acompañó de estrategias de diplomacia pública diseñadas para lograr apoyos a la lucha contra el terrorismo y disminuir los niveles de antiamericanismo. En este libro se ofrece un marco que recoge los aspectos teóricos más relevantes en el estudio de la diplomacia pública, para posteriormente ofrecer una visión histórica de la diplomacia pública estadounidense y la "guerra contra el terror". Además, se propone un modelo de análisis para la diplomacia mediática y se aplica al discurso de George W. Bush. ©La autora ©UOC.

    Diplomacia pública de la Unión Europea: los casos de Argentina, Brasil y México
    (2016)
    Azpíroz, María-Luisa
    El Tratado de Lisboa implica una reorganización para dar un mayor impulso a la política y acción exterior de la Unión Europea (UE), incluyendo su diplomacia pública. Este artículo examina la diplomacia pública de la UE en Argentina, Brasil y México en un contexto post-Lisboa, abordando aspectos como su funcionamiento, fortalezas y debilidades. La diplomacia pública es como una actividad diplomática y de comunicación política internacional que busca crear una imagen positiva y/o influencia política, y que contribuye al logro de objetivos de política exterior potenciando el poder blando de quien la practica. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se ha recurrido a fuentes académicas, oficiales y, sobre todo, a la información obtenida en entrevistas con personal del Servicio Europeo de Acción Exterior (SEAE), tanto en Bruselas como en las Delegaciones de la UE en los tres países objeto de estudio
